I'm looking for a nitro truck/buggy to do some jumping with. We have a cement skatepark in my town and a bunch of nice dirt trails. I have experience with MT's so far and while i like them, they are complex and expensive to fix. Does anyone know of any lightweight yet strong "rigs" that could stand up to the punishment of big air?

What are the main differences between Buggies/truggies/stadium trucks? Which is more durable? how about 2wd vs. 4wd? which will give me more control in the air etc? Thanks in advance

Well, buggies and truggies generally are 1/8th scale (if I'm not mistaken). Typically, buggies come with a center diff and are geared more towards racing than all out bashing. I would not suggest a buggy for big air type moves, but that's my personal opinion.

Stadium trucks are usually 1/10th scale and generally come 2WD (although there are many 4WD versions). I have both a RC10GT (2WD) and a HPI MT (4WD) and while both are relatively tough little trucks, again, I don't think they'd fare well with big air moves.

I think you're best bet is a Savage because they are designed and built to take that kind of punishment. The Savage may look complex because of its design, but is it's design that makes it so tough! Yeah, they can be a PITA to wrench on because you have to take parts out to get to the parts that need repaired, but seldom is there a need to do any major wrenching on them to begin with! I have absolutely beat the ever living crap out of my Savage, and the worst I did was break a fuel tank mount (and I t-boned the SOB into a tree at WOT too). I have the Revo, have had a T-Maxx, a Kyosho USA-1 Nitro and I have to say the Savage will take more of an outright beating than any of those others!

You can get a buggy or ST and beat on them and the parts may be cheaper, but chances are you'll just have to buy them more often. Get yourself a Savage, you won't regret it!

Well, buggies are designed to bottom out from jumps right? This is what keeps them safe "usually" from big airs, as it distributes the force along the entire chassis instead of strictly through the wheels/shocks/towers. I wonder though, with the intention of driving mainly in on-road settings, will the scraping of the chassis cause any problems (mainly screw heads) sthat would inturn cause headaches?

Thats sweet.

Ya, I got one of those XXX Main videos and they jump buggys like crazy. They once jumped a house and broke minor stuff like the body. The bugy still drove away though.

I have to agree with Z... The Ofna buggies are made for sick air... lol

Here's my PCR at the ECB1...

Geez, TJ, that brings back some memories. That white MT on the ground in your first pic is my old T-Maxx. I sold it soon after ECB II to get my Savvy. Man, we were trashing our rigs that day, weren't we? I had my Maxx flying just as high as those buggies and it just kept bouncing. Now I have a Mayhem and these buggies just take all sorts of abuse. I did a perfect lawn-dart from about 15' up and the thing just bounced and drove away. They are kings of abuse.

I've heard the Buggy is the best way to go when jumping. If you really want to see some insane jumping, get a copy of XXX Main video. I picked up a copy from some online hobby store. Anyways, they jumped a house with zero trouble. They cleared is so well, it had enough room to probaly do a two story section of the same house. They jumped around in a skate part and even jumped an 18 wheeler.

edited: ya this is part of the video I was talking about http://www.muchosucko.com/video-housejump.htm
