I was at another pet store getting some aquarium supplies and met the biggest German Shepard I've ever seen.
She was very friendly and well behaved and was on a tether with a 7 lb. Dachshund. The Shepard weighed 120 lbs.
Not fat at all, just big and tall and jet black.

Coincidentally I saw the largest German Shepherd I've ever seen at Home Depot yesterday in the back of a short bed f150, took up most of the bed. Beautiful dogs but always make me a little nervous. If I were to buy a dog of a specific breed instead of adopting, I really want a Golden Retriever, just gorgeous animals and always look eager to say hi.

My late wife had the biggest Dachshund that I've ever seen. 32 lbs. of sausage-dog. And she was solid muscle.

Bear is 6 months old today

A while back, standing in line at the store, I met a LARGE bull mastiff... About 130lbs according to the owner... We met when she sat down in my foot! :hehe: Sweetest little girl tho! She was my inspiration to get my angel! 90lbs of pitbull... The total opposite of everything any bad story about them that's ever been told! Similar in many ways to the shepards and their raps! I was always around VERY large German shepards. My grandfather always has 1 or 2 around. Beautiful dogs! Very loyal and big hearts!

@slowngreen. I thought you guys might want to see this. I found it rather interesting. Its rare that I see anything promoting the 'good' in pits, but in a lot of the dogs listed her in general. After having my pit, a Shepard/rotti mix and having been brought up (litterally since a baby) around some of the biggest shepards I have EVER seen, I have personal knowledge that agrees with these stats... Obviously there are many who do not share this knowledge which I find very sad! Anyways...

And I thought I'd throw this in here, just cuz it makes me smile!

I love pits, the are sweethearts. Aggression isnt bread. Hate the stereotypes on them and any other dog.

My pit was. BIG girl at 90+ lbs (land of the giants pit) She was ALL muscle but 99% of that was her heart! She was an ABSOLUTE ANGEL!!! She did well with my little nieces and nephews all the way thru to other dogs. She was eveytging a pit was NOT supposed to be. I hear SOOOOOO many ppl with similar stories. Its really a shame that there are those bunch of a$$holes who spoil the breed's rep! Yes, like ANY other breed, they can be turned into mean and nasty creatures but they are also easily changed with love, time and devotion from their NEW owners!
Because of their strength, when the mean ones do attack, they are capable of doing a lot of damage. Personally, I think poodles have a nastier disposition than pits (from my own experience) The ONLY breed of dog I have EVER been bitten by was Doberman. One full size, one mini. My opinion about ppl hating a breed based on the news etc is no different than someone hating a race or color human. Even with my experience with Dobermans, I do not hate the breed, or even hold a negative opinion or fear. (not poodles for that matter)

One of sweetest dogs I know is a registered blue pit named Star. She wants to be as close to you as she can get. The only way she'd hurt somebody is by cuddling them to death.

Yeah, my giirl was like that too. Don't misunderstand... She was a dog and did 's or things'. She was protective of 'her things' if she didn't like someone, which was rare, she would let them and you know. She was never vicious about it but she would do a super low growl under her breath and would cozy right up on me to the point of pushing me away from that person(s). I think she wanted to feel safe with me protecting her as much as she wanted to let me know how she felt. (vibrating my feet and the push)
She was by FAR one of the smartest dogs I have EVER known! EVER!!! I believe that is another problem people have with this breed and not raising them 'right'. As with ANY dog breed, you need to respect them and treat them as intelligent beings. You need to take the time to 'learn' the dog as much as they need to 'learn' you!
