Good Cheap Games Console?

I want to get either an X-box or a PS2 (Would like a PSP but the're like hens teeth at the moment).

As both are now very cheap in the uk the price difference is irrelevant.

I am not an advanced enough "gamer" to worry about waiting for the x-box 360 or PS3 to come out and paying 3 times as much for one either.

Which would people recommend to me? (and why!)

I would get the XBox.The graphics are alot better than the PS2.And most games that are on PS2 are also on XBox..

I suppose it depends on what type of games you like. Most games are now available for both platforms but there are still some top-notch titles that are proprietary. I have an Xbox and I have absoluely no issue with it. I don't play enough to want to run right out and buy a 360 so I'm going to keep hammering away on my original. There are enough good games to keep me smiling.

I have a PS2 and my buddy has an Xbox, the graphics and features are about the same. The only reason I would get the xbox is because Halo is not available on PS2.

i would say ps2. we have had ours ever since it came out like 4 years ago and still going strong and not an issue with it. All of my neighbors and friends at school that i talk to are at least on their 2nd xbox, i beleive my neighbor like 2 houses down is on his 3rd. they just play it normally and dont like abuse it. Its usually the power source breaks or the disc drive wont read. IMO, microsoft pretty much made xbox around Halo and Halo 2. LOL. IMHO, those are the only good games for xbox. Just my

xbox, i have had mine since christmas of the year it came out. never had a problem except the power cord recall which really wasn't a problem. i have a PS2 and i really dont think that it can match up with the xbox in any way. xbox would be the better choice of the two IMO.

i personaly like the ps2 because ik dont like the controler layout on the xbox.. the member "got nitro?" has a slim line ps2 with everything for sale for 100 bux... check out his thread!!

i think for me it comes down to ...do you want to play halo or the grand theft auto series?

the systems are gonna be very comprable ..i think you should just look at the games availible for both & see witch one has more games that look interesting to you

The PS2 is my drug of choice. In all reality, the games on PS2 are longer than X-Box, due to the format. I don't know if you are into online stuff, but with my PS2 that is about all I do, Play SOCOM III online. With PS2, it's free. X-box is like 60 bucks a year. in the long run the PS2 is going to be a lot cheaper, I have still seen used X-box games for up to 50 bucks. I do agree with Pilot tho, figure out witch one is best for you. You could end up chosing the X-box over the Playstation.

And not to crap on a thread or anything, but don't get a slim PS2, they overheat and crap...

I am definitally a biased xbox person (like some of you know), but Got Nitro? is selling an awesome PS2 SLIM for pretty cheap! You should check it out in the For Sale/Trade forum. I had gamecube, ps2, and xbox and I remember ps2 was pretty good. Not as good as xbox tho. The graphics arent nearly as good imo. I just played it at a friends house and the graphics were terrible! It mustve been his tv though or something. but ya, get his ps2 slim lol

Well, the slim is actually a really good version, just poorly thought out. Sony sells an optional fan to cover half of the system that keeps it cool for the most part, and the new wires don't catch on fire as much. I just don't care for anything that has been recalled twice...

I really dont like xbox that much... I have PS2 and i think the graphics are better, imo. The controller setup is a lot better on PS2 as well. I have both xbox and ps2 and i have halo 1 and 2 for xbox and all of the grand theft autos for ps2 and i totally like the ps2 more... Just me though... :shrug:

I have had most of em. I am lookinf for a PS2 to put in my wifes ride now... son wants my PSP....no well not all the time. I am going to install some headrest monitors if the price is right.

The ps2's graphic's and the Xbox graphics are pretty close,Xbox is just cooler because it has a hard drive to store things on,but you have to buy a remote to watch dvd's,and the controllers suck,ps2 on the other hand has nice conrtollers and requires nothing.

I have to dissagree on the controllers. I LOOOVVVEEE mine! I just HATE the old, huge ones that you could barely fit your hands on. The new ones are perfect for me.

Thanks for replies folks and its just as i suspected...Its very much that some people like this one and some people like that one!!!

Think I'll probably go with a PS2 though.....prefer the range of games particulary Grand Turismo 3 and Pro Evo Soccer 4. (And the FPS's like Call of Duty).....

Would like Got Nitros but we run 240v over here and shipping and import would kind of kill.
