glow starters

I have three glow starters laying around doing nothing. you know the cheap ones that take an alkaline. my theory is couldnt you get a rechargeable nimh and put it in there? two of the ones i have are D sized and i found 9500mah nimh batts at onlybatteries.com... wouldnt that last forever or would it not work?

Yes you can. It will work, and it's common practice. Just keep a normal Alkaline around for a spare. That's what makes these ignitors convenient.
There are also ignitors that are for C sized batteries. The only ones that MUST use rechargables are Sub C. A smaller NiCad or NiMh batt.

actually i use a "D" cell ignitor. i have a 10,000mah battery for it, and it does last forever. the friggin thing took HOURS to charge at 2A. if you want one of the cells i have shoot me a PM. i paid 27 shipped for 4 off ebay.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools store close by, they have Ni-cad and NiMh batteries cheap. I bought one a bunch of the AA size for my 1/18 elec. and X-mod. I was planning to get the C size for my glow starter but got a power panel and glow clip for my starter box instead. If you are going to pay $27 for batteries you may as well get a Power Panel and glow clip. Get more use from your 12v lead acid starter battery.

i have 2 powerpanels and clips for my boxes. however when that 12v battery wears down, the glowplug goes out as you crank the engine. my D cell is my backup incase that happens.
