Glow plugs

I know this usually breaks down to preference. Since I modded my engine it seems I am having trouble keeping glow plugs in it, after running for a few minutes it just wont run right without the glow igniter in it. I am running the traxxas standard long hot. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know while I was tuning I got the engine over 270 can that effect the life of the glow plug.

Well I run odonnel med/hot in my savage and they seem to do pretty well. I hear the mccoy 59 are close to the best but I dont really know. I never run my savage over 240. Is 270 the normal operating temp for your truck?

No I was usually in the 240 range, but I modded my engine and then threw a trinity pipe on it so I was re-tuning and it just got to hot.

If it's a 3.3, I don't think that's too hot. Mine usually runs 260-270. Any cooler and it starts bogging.

I use the Traxxas heavy duty plug (or whatever the 'official' name). I got a full gallon through my motor with 1 plug before it gave out.

Mr.Clean are you referring to the ones that are black in color they are the Super Duty I am gonna give that one a try next.

Its a 2.5r but I modded it and then threw the Trinity pipe on it. I went back to stock settings to tune and it just wont stay running with out the glow plug igniter in it.

I'm running the http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCB27&P=MLo.s. no.8 (long medium hot) and runs good and for the temps, i try to run the engine under 280F.

DAmn i still can't get my savvy running any cooler than 270 i mean when I'm not pinning it in full throttle it stays around 240 - 250 but when i run it full out at top speed down my street and back then when i get the temp its like 270ish

You have to keep in mind these trucks weren't made for long distance. If you were to drive like you were on a track with a run like a tracks longest Straight a way. I bet it wont hit 270.

A lot of the tuning articles I've read say the same thing. If you get a good tune for bashing, the motor will run a little hotter on a few WOT throttle passes.

Glow plugs do wear out. Either from running too hot (over 270f in traxxas) or even running too rich. And this might be a dumb question, but are you sure your glow plug is on tight

I am fairly certain its tight but will double check.

With Traxxas I ran McCoy 59.They were good heaby duty plugs. They always out lasted other plugs. I still run McCoy plugs in my .26 #8 or#9.
