Hey guys!
Just curious as to who's using what “glow plugs,” and what brands and temps has been working. I’m currently running my baby pretty lean now and going back'n fourth between 20%-30% fuel, depending on what the hobby shop has in at the time. I don't really go into races but do so against my cousin in fields and parking lots lol. Ultimately love the jumps though. Anyway, I find as I'm leaning her out the plugs are going more often now!
Any thoughts?
 
I run MC-59 plugs in all my engines.

Your glow plugs should last at least a gallon, I have one plug that's lasted 2 gallons! If your engine is lean enough to be melting your plugs, it's TOO lean.

Also, you should stick with the same nitro content fuel. Switching between them creates compression issues, depending on how your engine is set up (usually for 20%) you're getting too much compression from the 30%. Try to stick with one %.
 
I hear ya on the compression and the percentages! But I really don't think my engine is too lean, cause I know it can go leaner. My cousin's needle is in farther then mine and he's running alright I guess. But the MC 59 is that a hot plug?
 
I think the 59 is a medium-hot plug. All I know for sure is it works good in anything from .18 to .32.

Well of course you can go leaner... but if your frying plugs, your too lean regardless what your cousins is set at. All engines are different regardless if they are the exact same engine or not.

Do you have a temp gun? What's the temps at your glow plug?

I ran OS #8's with my 26SS and 20% fuel. You really shouldn't be going from 20%-30% without putting in another head shim. A 10% jump is a lot and could also be the culprit for burning up plugs.

Thx for the feedback Olds97 regarding the fuel. I wasn't sure if changing the fuel would make any difference. LOL it's difficult when you wanna drive and the hobby shop has no 20% left lol. Tell me more about the head shim if you don't mind!
 
The head shim is a little "washer" looking thing that creates space between the the head and the cooling tower, (where ur glow plug is) The aftershock comes stock with a 1mm head shim. To create a little more airspace, (to run 30%+) fuel, you would need to upgrade your head shim to maybe a 2mm. Its what i did, and solved all my problems with tuning, and burning plugs while running 30% fuel. If you are running stock, you should stick with a 20% fuel. It also depends on what kind of fuel you are using. You should not jump from one type to another. Different brands use different percentages of oil. Ex. Losi nitrotane (what i run) has a much lesser percentage of oil than, say, traxxas topfuel. just my 2cents
