is there any advantage to running a different length plug? will a certain length give you more power? sorry if this is a dumb quesion but i am still semi-new to the sport and am trying to learn all the little things.

Yes, the 2.5 and 2.5R take a long plug such as a McCoy MC59, MC9. I have been using the new OS Long Reach LC3 Hot Plug which is the equilvelant to the MC59. Traxxas will always tell you that their black plug is better, it's BS but it is the right length. Maybe the Traxxas plug runs beeter somewhere else than where I live do to ambient settings ect. Anywas when you use a short plug you increase the distance between the top of the piston stroke and the element on the plug. This decreses performance but not by too much. You can use them, I chose not to.

If you do have an engine that came with a short glowplug and you want to swap to a long one just make sure you don't use one with an idle bar. I have seen long idle bar glow plugs hit the piston in engines designed for short plugs

Hey HB, I agree with ya. The Traxxas plug isn't better. I've run both the MC-59 and the Traxxas plug and prefer the MC-59. The only reason I run the traxxas plug right now is cause I got a pretty good deal on 10 of them. Just wanted to pass that along.

yeah i saw the the 2.5r came with long plug and the other day my buddy was going to the lhs and i asked him to pick me up an extra one, my stock one went out yesterday and when i went to replace it i saw that it was shorter. i just wanted to make sure that it was not going to hurt anything. i don't mind a little less performance for a little while, especially because were on ice roads so you peel out most of the time anyway. thanks for the help.

The stock traxxas plug for the 2.5 and 2.5r are the same length as the McCoy's and the OS Long Reach. So if the TRaxxas plug you got was shorter than it is not the right plug.

the plug is shorter but i looked in the manual and it had the right part number. it wasn't a lot shorter but slightly. but i am going to go buy the right one now cause i am scared that it is not right. don't think any harm done so far though cause it was ran for maybe a minute on that plug.

Well I have a MC59 and a Traxxas plug right in my hands and they are the same length. If there is a diference I cannot see it.

I also run the Mc plugs 59 and 9, they work awsome and last alot longer then the traxxas plugs.

i could have made a mistake because i just took a quick glance and i though it looked shorter. i went to get some new ones today though, just to find the the hobby shop was closed.

i have been using the tower hobbie plug in my revo,t-maxx,and ntc3 plus without a single problem and they only cost 12buck for 6

This is right, for trx2.5r exists two acceptabletraxxas glow plugs. with this part numbers: #3231 and #3232.
Is possible to erad this in the Revo's manual at page 28 in break-in section in the right column the second point from the top.

I am using both and engien is running without big diferences.
I will look at the tip anout OS glow plugs.

Hi HB,

please be so kind and explain me the diferences betwen MC9 and MC59.
Both are long. The 59 is hot and 9 is cold and for high nitro content.
This I read on tower hobbies pages but I do not undersand the diferences.
In my country now in winter is cold weather. yerterdays around -10 celsius under zero. Today +6 celsius.

Can you advise me glow plug for this weather?

The summer here is about +25-30 celsius. Which glow plug I can use to get no problem runnings?

Thanks a lot.
