Glow Plug doesn't go into engine.

I have a Mugen M12, it's a turbo engine. I have a turbo glow plug, the one it came with. I took it off to see what brand the glow plug was to buy extras. I tried screwing it back, but it was stuck. Like, it would go in and screw in for about one turn, then it would get all weird, like it would get harder to screw in but it's not it all the way. I noticed that inside the glow plug hole there was a piece of metal kind of sticking out from the side. Could this be the problem? How can I fix it?

At first glance it sounds like you have cross-threaded the head/head button. That means you tried to thread the plug in a bit crooked and have started to shear the threads. If that's the case, unfortunately a new head/head button will be needed.

Just the head right? Not the whole engine? I'll show you a picture of what is happening just in case.

Take off the colling head. I am not sure if you have a button and head. If you are lucky its just a button.

Flat head? I've never seen a head using standard screws. I think I saw one use Phillips once... but usually they are hex.

RB's engines use a flat head screw; one of the downfalls to the engines. I'm not sure about the Mugen engines; wouldn't be surprised in the least if they did use flatheads.

Yeah... I only buy cheapies... so I wouldn't know. I think my orion wasp 18 had phillips. OS, Axial, SH, Dynamite, LRP, TRX, TTR all use allen.

Alright I'm going to take off the head today. How do I know if I have both a button and a head or just a head?

When you take the head off, you'll know. The button detaches from the head. It's basically sandwiched between the cooling head and the top part of the sleeve. Sometimes it sticks to the head, sometimes it sticks to the sleeve and you can pop them apart usually pretty easily.

If it's a no-head-button engine, the head and button won't come apart. It's one piece.

I found out I stripped it. I just need to buy the button, went tomy LHS today,they said they didn't have it. I guess I'll have to order it online, or find one for sale. Thanks everyone!

Good luck finding it... I couldn't find that engine anywhere. Not saying that you can't, but I came up with bupkis when I was looking for you the other day to figure out what plug it uses.

Yeah, it's a pretty old engine, but I have it in a good shape.

If its only the top thhread or two you might be able to get away with repairing the threads. Glow plugs are a 1/4"-32 thread and you can buy that tap I think at tower Might be worth a shot to just getting you running for a short while till you can get a new button.

You can also try using a 1/4 x 32 Allen, since it's hardened, and thread it in from the bottom side to clean up the threads on the top side of the button.

It's all the way at the bottom, so I need to buy a new one. I don't even know how it got at the bottom, probably I tilted while I almost got it in.
