Well I've decided that my next rig to build will be a crawler. I've been waiting until I found someone to crawl with, and since our lil cajun buddy has a wheely king crawler, I think I'm going to get one soon. I had kind of decided on the axial, and I really like the scale setup that NC pointed out in Rolex's crawler thread. I've gotten to know the guy who runs the LHS pretty good, and I've bought him a few things on ebay that he was looking for. He had a few crawlers but is down to one. It's a TXT-1, not alot of upgrades but a few crawer hop-ups. It's ready to go with everything but the tx and rx.

My question is this: He was asking $250 for it but he's going to sell it to me for $160 since I bought him some batteries and didn't let him pay me back. Are these rigs pretty good for crawling, and are they supported in the aftermarket. If it were you, would you buy the TXT-1 or spend $100 more and get the axial. I'm not going to be doing a lot of crawling, so I don't HAVE to have a competetion rig, mainly just messing around in the yard so the less I spend initially, the more I can spend on hop-up parts.

I'm not the one to give out info on crawlers, yet, but I looked at the Axial today at HobbyTown. I don't want another radio I have to pay for and sell for nothing, but I found out there's the RTR, which they had there, and a kit version that I'd have to order. The kit comes with a lot of the upgrades similar to the Savage kit. A lot of the green ano aluminum where the RTR is all stock black plastic. I still have to search out info on a few others.

Yeah I've been looking into the kit and RTR, and I haven't decided on one or the other. The kit has the aluminum but then I would have to but all the electronics as well. I would probably end up replacing a lot of the aluminum pieces with aftermarket stuff anyway, so I would consider the RTR. I've been researching the TXT crawlers though and I'm surprised at what I found so far, I'm impressed with it so far.

The TXT is a fun truck and the drive train is as tough as they come but it does need some work to become a crawler, the main thing will be to extend the wheel base and lower the cog. This will involve cutting the stock chassis or buying/building a new one.

Take a look at my old TXT-1, scroll down to TXT gets dirty :)

I've been doing some research, and the TXT 1 platform has a lot of possibilities. I think I'm going to buy this one because it's a great truck, already modified to crawl, and if I enjoy it a lot I'm going to build a very custom crawler based on an axial platform.

if you are intrested, i might be selling my highly modded axial soon. Its got the best of the best.

(my wife won't let me crawl in the landscaping.)

is that going to be the new rolex mobile? How much do you think you might ask for it? It doesn't have to be exact, a ball park figure would be good.

well now she is down to parts. I had a guy offer me a TC5 with electronics, 3 bodies, and spare tires for just my axles!!! With just the tc5 kit values at $350, I couldn't pass up a deal like that so i pulled the axles last night. The good part is that now i have alot of goodies to sell.
I'll post in the classifieds later today but a quick list of what will be for sale is.

Novak goat 18.5 brushless motor and esc
Proline 8 shooters with losi claws
axial tranny with CKRC aluminum gears and hardened outputs
6 cell elite 1500 saddle pack
CKRC battery trays
hitec 5955 with aluminum arm
Losi rock crawler shocks
.75" 12mm-12mm extensions.

Well just so you guys know, I just dove head first into crawling by buying a Novak Goat brushless crawling system, with the 18.5 motor. I'm excited about the crawler project, not I just need to get a truck to put it in.

I personally would recommend the Axial Scorpion kit. I have one, and love it. Was by far the best kit I have ever put together. They include EVERYTHING down to the paint masks.. If I had to make my choice again, I wouldnt change a thing. Deffinatly go with the axial. (ultimate hobbies has them for $229 with free shipping)

It's funny you should mention that. I have decided to go with the scorpion kit. I bought the goat brushless system, and I'm going to build the scorpion kit. I'm going to build my first scorpion to be a crawler, followed closely by A build with the TCS X Trail scaler chassis for the axial.

I went to the LHS today to look at the TXT-1 that I was considering buying. I had seen pictures, but when I saw it in person I couldn't believe how big it was. It had been stretched out to about a 16-18 inch wheelbase, and had 7 inch tires with rear steer. I liked the rear steer setup, but I just didn't like this huge super rig as much as the axial, so I didn't get it and I'm' going to order the axial. I think it will be great with the brushless setup.

yep, it was painted by ftr. i was amazed he could do that from the inside.

Its for sale in the classifieds right now

Well Smaxxin was here today with his crawler. I'm hooked, and I'll have an axial on the way soon. It was amazing the way his Wheely King crawled over stuff that looked impossible to climb. I almost traded him my 5b SS for it right there on the spot.
