Looking to get back into crawling, but got questions. I'm caught between a 1/18 or a 1/10th..

For a 1/18 scale my ahort list is
The trx-4m
Hpi venture 18
Fms18
Redacted accent 18

For a 1/10
Axial base camp
Trx 4
Axial coyote
Thinking about fms 10 and element

Trying to stay around the $350-$400 for the 1/10

How's element brand ?

I heard the trx is a bit top heavy ? As far i remember, Axial was thr peak brand ..

How are the trucks that I listed for durability? Of course I'm gonna upgrade as I go along..I'm in the desert of California so I have alot of storm washes around and good crawling areas.. probably 1/2 acre behind my house.

Opinions please ?

I have the ascent 18, and it's awesome. It was also right next to the licensed Ford body traxxas trx of the same size. The redcat came with portal axles, brushless motor/esc, full ball bearings, oil filled shocks and more for similar $$.

For 1/10- element all day. It’s a fair price for a really good truck. Any enduro, sendero, ecto etc will be great.
If you get an element, get a kit if they are still available.
For 1/18 - don’t forget about hobby plus. The cr18p lineup is crazy good for the price. The redcat accent has good feedback. FMS is also very good and probably the most scale of anything as far as the appearance.

I would put another vote towards Redcat.

Having built a few TRX4-M's, if you're looking for capability over looks I would look elsewhere.

I'm trying to get one of my TRX4-M's to perform on the same level as a Redcat Ascent Apex 18 and it's taken a ton.

Their 1/10 Fusion is cool too. Seen one at the last comp

Welcome!
For 1/18 if you are looking for performance I would go with Redcat or HobbyPlus.

For 1/10 I really love my Element crawlers.

I'd also vote for Redcat for 1/18, for out of the box performance. If you like scale looks, then right behind it is FMS (in my opinion).

For 1/10. I currently have TRX4, and I've actually been really happy with it. It's still completely stock for the electronics, but it's rugged and has good speed for trailing.

Welcome!
I've got 1/24, 1/18, and 1/10 fms rigs. The fms10 k5 is an awesome rig with great options for the price. This is my k5 with some body trimming, shocks and wheels/tires upgraded. Factory they have a 2 speed transmission, selectable lockers on both axles and 2wd/dig capabilities.
