Who knows what will happen next with the release of Win 8? All I know is if I was going to spend money on my PC, I wanted out of Vista.
As of now, I have a new 1Tb HDD, Win 7 and a Logitech M570 wireless trackball moose. Too big to be a mouse It will all seem new once it's all connected.

I just added a 2TB storage drive to my PC. I am running the 64bit OS and it is a pain to find drivers for some of my older equipment. I have a perfectly good hp scanner that HP simply doesn't offer any win 7 support on. I guess it is the price of doing business these days.

A trackball... wow I haven't seen one of those in a long time. Took a while for me to get the hang of it... but once you do... it is tough to go back to the old style mice.

I hate upgrading operating systems... If I could have stayed with Windows 2000 Professional, I would have. That was the best Windows OS. I did eventually upgrade to XP, which was only a bloated version of 2000. Then on to Vista, which I still regret. By the time I stripped it down to a useable OS, Win7 was coming out. I jumped on the final beta, and when the retail was released I grabbed it. I doubt I'll touch Windows 8 before it's a year old, but that all depends on if I build a new rig by then.

Well guys, I'm on the PC, running win 7 with a 1Tb HDD installed and the original HD mounted as a secondary. That gives me 1.64 Tb plus an external 2 Tb external drive. The 2 Tb was dropped while moving and it won't light up. :\ It only hit on carpet from a low elevation, so I'm hoping to open it up and just find a loose wire for power.

Well, lots more to do as far as getting all my programs back in.

Vista Drivers will work on Win7 for the most part if you can find them for your legacy device.

Wow is this thing fast. Anything nasty that was in the Vista version slowing things down is now gone. I know I had a few things that got in that no virus protection or malware program could detect or remove.
Alien, I'm also running Microsoft Security Essentials just to protect myself till I find my Avast disc. I just moved, so I'm still pretty lost. If I like it I just might keep it.
I have programs that I purchased via download. How do I get them back?

I've gotten 2 programs reinstalled after they sent me the license keys and a new download link.
When I bought this PC it had a lot of extras bundled in by HP. Any idea how I get them back? A complete licensed copy of Office 2007 was one of them.

Do you have the license key still, Rolex? If so, you may be able to download it from Microsoft, but I think it was replaced by Office 2010. You might also try HP customer service. They may be able to get you a copy of their bloat-ware for a minor fee.

I got the Office 2010 in the laptop, but it's the starter version. Word is activated, but you have to buy the rest of the system. All I ever use is Word, so that's all I want.
I guess contacting HP is what I have to do.

Rolex, have you considered StarOffice or OpenOffice? They are the same as MS Office, handle the same formats, but are free and open source.

I've tried Open Office in the past, but never heard of Star Office. It's just that I'm so used to using Word. I really think I should be able to get the HP software that was included in the computer. After all, it is theirs, and it's the original HD that failed.

Agreed, I prefer Word as well. Just offering a suggestion. HP may not be willing, depending on how old your system is. I assume you are out of warranty?

Out of warranty. Either way, the additional software was included in their purchase price and I paid $1200 without the monitor.
I've installed OpenOffice for now. I did some research on Star Office, and tried about a dozen sites but couldn't get a download. Even on the Sun Systems site it said to click the download link below, and there was none.
What I saw in the reviews looked pretty good. If you know of a working download add it here.
Thanks.

That's one of the sites I tried.
I'll try getting it through HP, but if I can't I have no intention of paying MS $139 for Office.

If you have the setup/install file, you can copy it over via the network, disk, or flash drive. If all you have is the installed version, there is a way to do it. I personally don't know how, it's typically used for illegally trading software. I understand you already own it, but the software giants don't see it that way.
