hey guys how can you tell if your gear mesh is at ok gap ? it is extremly difficult to see in the t maxx 3.3....

I do mine by ear but there are a lot of methods out there. The piece of copy paper is prob the most used by others. When I mesh mine I just listen for the grind to go away and as soon as I don't hear the grind anymore I usually tighten it up just a little and lock it down. I have never striped and CB or spur gear so I guess that works pretty good.

yeah the paper is about the closest to good you can get it.. just make sure your engine is in there strait as well cause that will shear the teeth right off..

Yeah i think i may use the paper method because i have stripped the gear right off and I'm still only breaking in the new engine... Very frustrating.... I have never used the paper method coz all other trucks i can see the mesh clearly. Thanks guys ill give it a go wish Mr luck

I do it by feel and lots of practice, but the paper method is effective. You want it as tight as possible, but it should still turn freely.

I do it just tight enough so that when I hold the CB with my hex driver, I can hear the "click" between the CB and spur gear. Then I check with the strip of paper just to make sure.

sorry call me noob but what you are you talking about when your refer to the CB? :\

ah yep yep.. i can't picture what you mean you put your hex bit on the clutch bell and hear the click... please explain dude

you hold the clutch bell still and wiggle the spur gear back and forth youo should hear the teeth tapping together because of the little tiny space inbetween the sets of teeth.. hope that helps

Couldn't have explained it better myself! I still use the paper though just to make sure that the gears are not too far apart. If you can hear the teeth "tapping" then the gears will not be too tight together.
