people that think its drilling rigs that are making gas so high really don't know what they are talking about,a drilling rig is like any other business,we pay for our fuel,no deals,believe me 10,000L every 5 days is not cheap,we have employees to pay,parts to buy,land agreements to pay,we have to pay for water useage ,land useage,place to land spread our returns,we dont get payed any different for drilling for oil,gas,etc.with the rising cost of every day living of course our wages must increase,hands have to eat,pay for hotel rooms,buy clothes.PAY for fuel to get to and from work ,which i might add is not a 3min drive downtown,believe me it's not us causing the high prices just because your paying 2.99/g dosen't mean i get another $2/hr in pay.maybe start looking at your countries leaders,going to war looking for weapons that werent there etc,that wasn't cheap on the tax payers pocket book,opec also dictates most of the prices we see today in everything.
 
.30, except for the part about OPEC, that was one of the dumbest analyses of fuel prices I have ever seen. Even if the war costs the US people, it is in the form of taxes. Federal fuel taxes did not increase as a result of this current war. Taxes remained the same. No relationship therefore. That was simply cheap political rhetoric.

Fuel is a commodity. It is traded on the open market. The fuel prices you see for a barrel of fuel is for OCTOBER futures! The worst is yet to come. Since it is traded on the open market, the WHOLE WORLD bids on these markets. Blame Walmart and it's exploitation of Chinese labor if you want to even start to blame. The sudden and immense growth of the Chinese manufacturing sector has consumed about 4 times more oil in that country in the past 18 motnhs, making the available crude a more in demand product, thereby increasing trading prices, nevermind OPEC's cutting back production.
 
hmmmmm, i can't remember where its at, but its like in africa or somethin, they have 100 years petroleum reserved but they wont get it because it will DISTERB the animals. who cares! we will kill and eat them too.
 
the only point i am making is it's not the drilling rigs causing this huge gas price increase,or the people working around them or on them,9 rig down etc etc what ever!,oilfield labours are feeling the pinch also.i know it's world wide so don't just single out one group of people..that's all
 
.30, I agree with that. It seems a lot of people forget the rig workers are just everyday workers like the rest of us and buy the same loaf of bread at the same market, and the same expensivce gas, too. Plus, their wages may be fixed by contract and even if fuel goes up, they do not get an "automatic" raise.

The US has a Government owned Stategic Reserve of oil not gasoline. What reserve of fuel the US has is primarily earmarked for military use. There is a large reserve of heating oil that can be made available. The refineries do not have the capacity to hold that much oil or gas in reserves. Even if you combined all of it together (Gov. and Commercial) there is not enough to last anywhere near that long with 250,000,000 vehicles in operation not to mention everything else that burns fuel. Right now there is not enough production taking place to meet demand.
Do some research. Start here. If all production stops we are s.o.l. in a week or two.

i didn't mean to step on any toes with my statements,i just wanted to let you guys know that i'm not getting filthy rich just because of high gas and oil prices
 
I heard alanta is $6 a gallon. They are forcing us to get smaller cars

no, our countries big truck attitude is now catching up with us. I've been saying for years that big vehicles are the scourge of the earth. its the soccor moms in thier expeditions, the single males with thier navagators, people who commute 100 miles to work thier office jobs in a full size pickup. some people need trucks, most who have them, dont. a mid to fullsize sedan would work just fine for most families in this country.

gas prices do suck, but until the demand decreases, nothing will bring relief.
 
Well I just heard on Fox News that they are actually predicting by columbus day prices will get back down to "normal" again. I can't wait to see that happen.
 
ok, i have been studing natural gas for about a year know, And i know that natural has nothing to do with oil, but we do study that for a while. I did not mean to say that the workers are getting rich off of this. The war has nothing to do with it. I am simply saying that the oil industry itself is making record "Profits" this year. That does not mean the drill workers or any other laborors. And i also belive one of the main reasons for the gas raise before the hurricane and now is that within the last year the common public not picking out an indivdual here, Has been in a panic that we are going to run out of oil. Why i dont know but if you were in the market, and people think its running out, jack up the price, to make profits. My 2 cents, not trying to piss any one off. just one opinion.

I hear you there CorradoPsi... I drive a lot, but it wouldn't be any cheaper for me to move closer to my work. I pay $600 a month for rent 54 miles from my office. A comparable apartment within 20 miles of my office starts at around $1400 a month. A house where I live is around $160K. A house near where I work, $500K... it just isn't worth it. Pretty much anything that isn't 5 miles from where I work still takes you about 35-40 minutes in a car. I drive 60 minutes, 40 of which is at a nice leisurely 70mph getting 28mpg in my "full size" sedan. I average about 26mpg round trip.

Anyway, where I agree with you, I get passed all the way to and from work in hummers, expeditions, jeeps... swing a dead cat and you hit four 8 cylinder SUV's getting 14mpg if their lucky. It's a f'n joke.
 
Only time my Tahoe get's out of the garage is to lug all the R/C stuff I have or for long distance drives (250miles each way on avg). Otherwise, it's the Taurus to haul r/c equipment locally.

People look at my Tahoe and they wonder why I'm driving it with gas prices the way they are ... well, take a look inside. 10x10 EZup, table, chairs, 4 tool boxes, crate of fuel, at least 3 r/c's if sl0eg1n is with me, cooler, starter boxes and other misc stuff. Yeah it's a big car BUT only sees the road MAYBE once a week if I race upstate and being 2WD and considerably over powered ... I avg about 21mpg since she'll stay in overdrive most of the time if I keep her in cruise control and my right foot off the pedal. Otherwise, it's the taurus making the trip and geting 28 mpg. Not much of a difference but more room with the Tahoe and comfort.

Also helps to work from home. My office/work space is occupying the basement apartment in our house. I don't have to drive to work every day.
 
I'm not impressed with my 19mpg out of my four-banger mazda. I've done tune-ups and all sorts of things to that truck, and not seen difference.

Sometimes a smaller engine in a truck is the wrong way to go. A car that is underpowered is always straining to get up to speed.

I just sold my extended cab Mazda with a v6 and it was getting 22 city 25 hwy. Like diver said small motor is under powered.
 
The local gouge station here was up to 3.18 this morning in contrast to the guy across the street that is 3.05. I saw the owner standing in the drive wondering why people were making a circle out of his station and lining up 5 deep at the other.

I used to only get fuel at the Chevron station but started going across the street about 2 years ago after he started charging more then a few pennies more then anyone else. I have known the owner for over 10 years and asked him why he charges more. His answer was "because people will pay it. Most of my sales are on a Chevron CC and they have no choice." Thats the day I quit going there. LMAO, Think Again.

I was talking to my neighbor last night who is the sales manager for all the dealerships on our local Auto Row. He expects this weekend to be the largest sales weekend in history for their dealer group. What surprised me was the fact that he believes people will be taking advantage of the lower price of LARGER autos. According to him people will purchase the SUVs and Trucks that are on year end clearance. He followed up by saying the people that can't afford fuel can afford new cars and the people with money are bargain hunting.
 
The lowest gas prices around here as of last night were;
Regular (if you can find a gas station that has any left) $339
Mid grade (also if you can find a gas station that has any left) $349
Super (everone still has super) $359
 
My station was at $3.25 yesterday then later dropped to $3.19. This is really getting annoying now because I now have to do 2 price surveys a day and it's about a 20 mile trip each time. We don't even get paid for the mileage!
