I just ran the truck hard for 30 minutes. ESC temp = 105˚F. Brushed motor temp = 168˚ F at the end bell, 149˚ F on the can and heat sink.
I've only run mine twice now. Since motor heat was brought up I actually checked mine today too! My temps were about the same. 145-150°f on motor and 105-110°f on the esc.
I've done nothing to it but need to check some things as it has a bad driveline noise at higher speed.
 
This may sound silly , but what type of battery are you using ? I know this is pretty much common knowledge , but a 2s and 3s run different temperatures I think ?
 
Is it a fixed motor position or adjustable?

Leave it brushed. A better quality motor will be a bump in performance.

See if the mini-b shocks swap over. Are they a bladder type shock?
It has a motor mount with three fixed positions for three pinion sizes. It was supplied with a metal 13T Mod 0.6 pinion and 48T spur. The mesh is perfect.

The shocks are bladder type. They work fine and don't leak but when the bottom shock body caps are tightened, they over-compress the sealing O-rings and cause binding. The O-rings are clear so I'm guessing they're silicone. I've tried Green Slime, Super Lube and Ceramic Lube but the O-rings still bind on the shock shaft when the bottom shock body cap is tightened. Some different O-rings might cure the issue but I don't have an assortment of O-rings in that small size range to try. Leaving the bottom body caps backed off a half turn or so decreases the binding with no leaking so far.

I'm running the supplied 2S 2000mah battery. I believe this brushed version of the truck can only run on 2S. The brushless version can use 2S or 3S.

I haven't run mine the last couple days. Focused on some other stuff while wait for new motor to show up. It sounds like the heat is a common problem across the board.
It also sound like overall its a hard deal to beat for 100 bucks. I know mine has been.
