Alright guys this might be a stupid question, but here goes. I have a Fm receiver, has a broken antana wire, I have extra wire fron a broken AM receiver can I solder the AM wire onto the FM unit. Is it compatible. Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Then again I know nothing about radio frequencies, ect. I do however know in the traxxas manual it says that the length of the wire is very specific. When I first got my pede I accidentally snipped just enough of that antenna to expose the wires inside and I didn't care much. Took it out the next day and it took off on me 2 or 3 times, almost going W/O into a fence. So that's the last time I risk that, I quickly upgraded to 2.4Ghz.

I was makin a video one day of my max jumping my fence and was doin a backflip over it and my antenna caught the fence and ripped out i stripped some of each wire and twisted them together and shrink wrapped that and i havent had a problem since

that was with a am radio to btw but i would try it with a fm radio. But also i did have my gf stand by my truck while i walked like 100 yards away to test b4 i ran it again after doing that to the receiver wire

Again it depends on the frequencies of the radios involved. A 72 MHz radio will have a shorter antenna than a 27 MHz radio.

hamz may be right i know nothing about radio frequencies but if it were me and its already broke anyways and you have that extra just layin around not being used and dont care about it i would toy with it and try to fix it and then test it. if you dont have anyone to watch and help you test you can always set up a camera and walk away fanning the throttle till you get back then watch the video and see if it ever glitches.

If you remember what the old rooftop TV antennas looked like, each set of rods was 3/4 of the wave length of the channels being picked up on VHF.

Same thing for these radios. The length of wire is tuned to the frequency for the best signal. You can get it to work with a different length, but your range will decrease and your glitching will increase.

What i did worked great but i still had the original wire that was ripped from it so it really didnt change the length if it did it. wouldnt even be an inch in difference

An inch is as good as a mile when it comes to radios snd signals.

The wire on the FM unit is not completely missing just broke off several inches. It is a Spektrum unit. the wire is from a HPI Am receiver. Think I will try it and see what happens.

I wouldn't mess with a broken Spektrum antenna wire. Sometimes they're actually a coaxial cable. Horizon Hobby can do it for you for a minimal charge.

gee i wish traxxas would do that,i snapped the antenna on a 2.4ghz receiver and them emailed them about a replacement and they said to buy a new receiver
