I am almost done building this awesome looking buggy, and I have a couple of small bags of extra parts. Most of the extras, I can identify. Several of them are optional parts for fine tuning the set-up.

BUT

There is a set of four silver washers that has me stumped. They were found in Kit Bag A and are shown in the owner's manual as a part of that bag. They are listed as: "OW13.5x15.9x0.2 4pcs". The other stuff in the bag was used to build the diffs.

I have looked everywhere in this manual and the addendum sheets that came with the kit, but I can only find it listed in the Kit Bag inventory.

My question is what the heck are they for?

I have the same parts left over from building mine. I believe these are diff shims. You put them between the diff bearing and the diff casing to adjust mesh between the ring gear and the pinion gear. At least that's how I understand it. I have not used one yet. :)

Tex

When I got the diff gears to do the spider mod on my savage there were some washers in the bag also. this was a Kyosho diff replacement, and I tried them but it made the diff too tight.

TEX NAILED IT !.. AWSOME BUGGY EH :D.. ONE THING is if you get a chance, double up the ackmen arm, or buy the aftermarket 5mm ones.. they bend very very easy..

Okay...the diffs didn't seem to need those things. They were pretty snug.

Ackerman Arm? You are the second person to recommend this mod. My question is what is the Ackerman Arm? Is it the drag link -or- the long skinny plate that the turnbuckles for the front wheels connect to?

The only reason I ask, is the one that came with the buggy is as thick as the chassis plate. I am also kind of wondering how it gets bent. This thing shouldn't be taking too much strain...but I could be wrong.

its the slightly "u" shaped peice thats goes from the left side to the right side of the steering arms . It runs under the front diff brace. How it bends is if you wack one the tires and the other tire is stationary, something has to give and that whats gives. 3 race days and my was bent up 1/8" inch.. (but i crash alot lol) Mugen makes a 5mm one but doesn't seem to be out yet, but a easy and cheap fix it get another stock one, cut the ends off, and get lil longer bolts and stack em.. Also while your doing that add some washers under it, and get rid of the bump steer

Not being a racer...bending anything is not good. Why? I'm a basher...so this mod interests me a lot. Thanks for the tip.

The bumpsteer issue, I am familiar with what bumpsteer is...but not certain as to how the washers beneath the Ackerman Arm (referred to as a drag link on MTs) will stop this from ocurring. Could you elaborate for me?

there is some play in the bushing nut (dont know what its called) that the ackmen arm is bolted too, the washers reduce the up and down gap, making the arm more ridged on the steering bellcranks. i did the mod, and personally couldnt tell the diff in handling.. but since i had it apart fiqured id try it

oh ya sept issue in rc car action has a nice write up in it about the mbx5, and lil tips on it too

Thanks for the info.

If I ever subscribe to an RC magazine, I'll have to look that one up...thanks for the info.

Next step is the break in...RB S7 just waiting for some nitro...

Just the S7. Was told that it is plenty of engine for my use (bashing). Wasn't going to drop much more than I did, for a WS7II. If I ever get into racing, serious racing, I might consider it...but that is too much money in my opinion.

ya at the track i race at (tight and bumpy) i have my throttle set at 85% cause the motor is too much (ws7II), but when it comes to dicking around.. set it too 100% and it flys

Cool...thanks for all the help this evening.

shims

I'm glad someone else asked that question. I had the same things left over and didnt know what they were for. Anyway, the new mbx5 is almost done, just cutting the bodyshell. Put the ws7ii in it. Interested to see what it goes like compared to my hyper.

ya i found on the ws7II and mbx5 it seemed to bog with the stock clutch springs, so i tried the mugen 1.1, no more bog and lil more zip off the line (motor does have to rev a lil more to move)

springs

I was running 1.1 mugen springs in my hyper, so thats what I'm running anyway. Just finishing it off now and then I'm going to the track. Hopefully the setup i have done will be fine for testing. Back down there on sunday for some serious driving.

wow

took the mbx out tonight for an hour or so. I have to say i am very impressed with its performance. I easily dropped time off mu laps and with some more tuning, I'm sure it can go faster. Had a fwe problems with the backend traction with the turbo rats that came with. Going to find some new tyres that suit the mostly flat dusty track that we have here. Anyone have any suggestions or could there be another reason the backend keeps going away.

try moving the bottom of the rear shocks in one hole closer to the chassis on the bottom arm (makes the suspension act faster). I had the same prob.. doing that took care of it.. My mbx5 came with proline crimefighters which work great on hardpacked with some light dirt

backend

I will try that. The thing is though, i seem to lose the back end of the flat/loose as well. I'm sure it is the tyres and my woops (on hyper) did not act this way. Saying that, the hyper has front and centre torsen in.

oh see mine would do it outa corners, and in bumpy sections of the track
