I bought a 130x a year ago. First flight i crashed hard. A complete rebuild and ready to fly.
This is my first CP heli. Dx6i has been " dummied down" by a pro. Didnt get to chat with him he flies real helis for our armed forces and rc for fun. (hats off to him). Should i fly it
Out of stunt mode to get used to it or dive in to flight mode?

I personally prefer to to fly the "dumbed down" set up first on the aircraft to get a feel for it. Once I'm comfortable, I'll go ahead and bring the rates up to normal and give a bit less expo.

What kind of minis? Collective pitch minis? Or fixed pitch minis? The reason that I ask is that IMHO that 130x is very finicky about setup to put it mildly. Can you fly circuits for a whole battery on the 120sr and then land without crashing?

If so, then yes, start out slowly with the 130x flying in normal mode only, tame down the pitch curve to something like -3 to +8 and start working on those CP heli skills.

If not, stick with the 120SR until you can fly a whole pack (and I mean fly, not hover) and then land safely.

Also, I cannot stress enough the value of a good simulator.

fixed pitch. havent flown 120 for 6-8months. i have 2 but i flew it into a tree about 45' up and had to knock it down. i missed. i think the other has a bad motor. i could probably make one out of the two fly. i never tried to fly a whole pack. when i crashed i was going up flying around n practicing landing. my dx6i has been dumbed down not sure to what though. kinda afraid of 130x. i hafta take it up sooner or later.

I'm not really sure why you wouldn't fly a whole pack? I mean they only last like 5 minutes, so set a timer on your radio, and fly around until it's time to land. From the sound of it, I'd say stick with the 120SR until you can fly a whole pack and bring it back in one piece. But, that's just my advice, based on being humbled by CP helis to the point of quitting years ago.

I agree with flying the 120SR for a whole pack comfortably before switching over to the 130. I'm still having problems with a CP on the sim.

great advise! if i fly the 130 in normal mode, will it fly like the 120,"fixed pitch"?. i started trying to fix my 120. ill need help and will post on a new thread. thanks.

No, it's a collective pitch bird.

i knew its cp. so by switching control to 1 instead of 0 it will be more agressive. other than flight mode"3d" thats obvious. did a bunch of reading. it will sit in box a while.

I think you made the right choice letting it sit for a while.

What you are referring to as flight modes 0 and 1 are normally referred to as normal and idle up (what you think of as 3D mode). Idle up on an electric heli generally runs at 100% throttle all the time, all you control with the collective is pitch at that point.

I need to fix my 130x, AGAIN! (not crash related)

i had it dumbed down. like 75-80%.
fmode idles up
what about ailer 0/1
" " " rud 0/1
that is like low/high mode correct. more agressive hence dr/ expo..
am i at least on the right track????

75-80% is still very responsive IMO on the 130x, but that will vary with each pilot. I'll check when I get home, but think that's probably where I have my DR at for idle up 3D (more like 2.5D for me :D) flight. I map all my dual rates to one switch so that I don't have to keep track of all three separately. And yes, you're on the right track.

I usually map all of my dual rates to the Elevator D/R switch on mine.
