Hello I would like to pick your brains I am new to Nitro RC. After a 3 week wait time for an EBAY purchase I received my purchase a few days ago. I have been busy at work so I woke up today made a coffee and grabbed some tools and went at it. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the way the 3.3 looked on the inside. What do you all think? Like I said very new to Nitro rc. Everything seems tight no play at all between the connecting rod and crankshaft. one thing I did notice is the is a "tick" for lack of a better term when the con rod and piston reaches BDC also I wish I had the knowledge of what a good pinch feels like when reaching TDC any advice or comments would be very appreciated

I'm not a nitro guy, but have done a fair amount of 1:1 engine building. Looks pretty clean. As for the "tick" at bdc, if you pull the connecting rod and crank out, look for any wear spots on the components. It may help to get you a bottle of blue dykem, or Prussian blue to mark the parts, reassemble, rotate, and any areas where rubbing occurs should show up like a neon light.

Sorry, this reminds me of a funny story:
One note on Prussian blue, it's like graphite lube powder. One drop will get on EVERYTHING. I pranked a kid that tried to prank me when he snuck out and wrapped a huge zip tie on my driveshaft. After getting told he did that, I made him go out and remove it. Before that though, I squirted what I believed to be a few drops of Prussian blue on the ground around the area of grass he would have to lay down in to remove the zip tie. It was dark outside. He went outside, and when he came back in he looked like a freakin' Smurf! He was literally covered from head to toe in blue goo. Hair, face, arms, pants, shoes were all blue. His shop nickname from then on was "Bluegrass". Boy, was he pissed! 🤣

Engine looks clean inside a little gum up from old fuel but not bad. Sometimes when the oily piston passes the transfer ports they will make a sound. 2 ways to test pinch one build the engine and see if it has good compression second if you have the piston and sleeve out the piston should not easily or at all come out the top of the sleeve. If the piston slides right out its worn out, some old school guys have a special little sleeve re-pinching tool. Also to test the rod on the crank there should be no play at all.
