I added Dean's connectors to everything in preparation for some hotter packs, and so I can use my other charger as well. I've also went through the suspension and made some changes in oil weight and valving too, and I think I've got a good baseline setup going (thanks marauder!).

Hey, no problem. Truck is looking good!

Let me know how you like that setup. Worlds different from stock huh?

It seems to do very well on the track, but I've not really bashed my Slash yet. Thinking about taking the Velineon system out of my Rustler VXL and putting it into my Slash...

What is your setup, marauder? I went with full preload in the front shocks and dropped all four to the outer-most holes on the arms. Haven't done anything to the diffs yet.

From a previous thread, will quote here for reference:

For the stock setup, if you stick with the 2-hole pistons that come stock, I suggest 50wt up front with 3mm preload spacer, 40wt in the rear with a 4mm preload spacer. I ran this at my track and it handled big doubles very well.

I'm now running single hole pistons, with 45wt up front 3mm preload spacer, 35wt in the rear 4mm preload spacer. This setup is a lot stiffer, but handles so well. It's also less prone to body roll and in turn will keep you from rolling over so much on pavement.

If you're running onroad, set the lower shock positions to the far outside all around, if you're running offroad or jumping a lot don't set the rears so far out or you will bend the shafts with a hard landing on the back tires.

If they have the aluminum shock caps get some. That combined with proper oil level in the shocks will help prevent blow outs. You can get two sets of them for around $14.00 or so. The stock shocks aren't a bad option if you use the right oils.

Other than that, if you haven't already ran it, break in the motor using the water technique. I wasn't a believer until now. Also lube the bushings before each run. I know it's just a $23 motor, but you can get a lot of runs out of them when taken care of properly.

Only other part you might want to have handy are RPM rear hub carriers. Those stock carriers snap with the slightest impact, the RPM are reinforced and so far mine have taken a lot of abuse with no signs of wear or damage.

I like the setup pretty well, although since I don't race I think I'll go to 50wt in the rear and still the single hole pistons for both ground clearance and big hits as the Slash just begs to be abused. Two of us literally took turns BEATING on the thing for two days last weekend and nothing, that's right, NOT ONE THING broke. I saw the truck go end over end, cartwheel, barrel roll, and head on from the top of a hillclimb straight into a boulder with the front end. Handles TONS better than stock, it was a softly sprung pig in the corners out of the box, I traction rolled it on loose gravel. I want a Velineon setup SOOOOOO bad for mine. It'll have to wait until the Savvy sells though.

You gotta get that diff outta there and get some good stuff in it RC. I did my break in then tore it down after reading the RCCA article. I have 5000 weight in mine and it's still not enough to keep the truck from unloading one side in a tight corner. Then again, it all depends on driving style too. I'm a tail out steer with the throttle kinda guy with 2WD trucks. I find they're more predictable that way. Instead of wondering when it's gonna break loose in a corner, I know it's going to so I can dial in how much I want to tighten up a corner just by applying throttle. Think of it in MX terms as related to a berm. The guy who runs the high line may carry more speed and momentum, but the guy who dives to the inside and used the rear brake and throttle to pivot the bike around to square up the corner can get back on the throttle HARD much sooner. Again though, it's all dependant upon your driving style. I would say I'm an agressive driver LOL.

So my suspension setup is pretty spot-on. I really haven't had an issue with slinging it around. I slide and power it just right and she slides out of the turn and goes. I LOVE MY SLASH! Best part of the proper setup is when I DO run on-road she will do the same thing without the annoying barrel roll that she did in the stock configuration.

I will have to give the diffs some thought.

Thanks for the info, fellas!

If you like sliding the truck around the diff mod only helps make it more of the same.
