Does anyone know if after sucessfull instalation of Mozila FireFox it would be safe to just do away with internet explorer. I do not like IE, never had a use for it and all it does is complicate things, therefore, I would LOVE to get it off my computer. Can I do so without adversly affecting normal operations?

I just have a thing in the back of my head.. it my be hard to explain. I know that Internet Explorer is the main "gateway" to access the internet. It holds all the information and other stuff to connect succesfully, but I would like to remove it. Does anyone know if it's possible? thanks for your help!

From what I understand, MS integrated IE so deeply into Windows that it's nearly impossible to uninstall. I use FF and still have IE on my system. But I rarely if ever use it and I have FF set as my default.

candyman is correct. explorer is a pita to try to remove ..if your even able to.

also some websites dont play well with firefox, so id keep ie on the system. just dont use it

I use firefox almost exclusively, but there are sites or applications that wont run on it. After exhausting your time and resources to get ie removed, I'm sure you'd find one of those sites.

Tweak,

IE is indeed a pain in the rear to remove and I'd highly recommend NOT doing it - if for just one reason you won't be able to download your Windows Updates. If you try with FireFox it will give you an error, so keep IE on there just to do updates and remove any shortcuts from the desktop and quick launch tray (that's what I've done).

Thats mostly whay I have done. I just didn't know if it was THAT deeply intergrated into Windoze to the point that it would prevent normal operation. I guess there's just no way around it :(

Yeah, I think windows uses it to run some of its stuff. It may use it indirectly, like some of the same libraries and what not.

I tried un-installing it on a windows 98 machine about 6 years ago... after removing it, the pc wouldn't boot up and I had to do a full restore from the windows install disk. And of course, there was IE again...

i tried to get rid of IE, but i dont think i have been ably to get it completely off my system....but i sure do love Firefox!!!!

srry not trying to jack ur thread, but whats the diffrence between ff and ie, ff can on my laptop and I deleted it. I did not know what it was. Is it better.

FireFox is a product from Mozilla. It's a standalone browser, kinda like InterNet Explorer, but IMO a housand times better. Extensive plugins, better browsing, less crashes. And it is COMPLETELY free.

thanks i am going to re download it and give it a shot, thanks tweak, tweak did you get ur name from southpark, not dissing but I watched it yesterday and I thought about you. lol

lol. No, it's been my nickname since back in the day... My mom kinda had this thing with drugs and some of her friends started calling me it. it stuck...assholes.

I tell you, I've personally had mixed results with FF. If I'm on this site, or doing some general surfing, it seems alright, but when I use it to access my company's web mail portal, I have extensive issues. It'll bring the portal up, allow me to sign in and read my e-mail, but anything I send gets lost in cyberhell. Additionally, I have my homepage set to pull scores and certain news stories (speaking of which, did anyone see the Janet Jackson nude sunbathing video, not too shabby!) but I have to manually refresh it to pull the latest information down.

Just my opinion, but to Tweak's question, as has been mentioned, don't try to uninstall it! It creates more problems than it's worth!

I have had some mixed occorences with certain video portals (www.wtfpeople.com and oters) and I also cannot access my Citrix based web portal from home, but I rarely use it, when I do I use Opera.I work from home and noticed a neat little extension from FireFox called "stumbleupon" it's like a channel surfing extension, you just clicka button and it takes you to one of millions of user rated sites that match our own search criteria. I love t, sit there all day while on the phone and just surf away.
