So I get home from work yesterday, and slightly smell an unusual odor. Didn't think too much of it. I come home this morning and 80% of my new apartment smells like cat piss. Now I've never owned one of those worthless animals, nor has one been in my place since I've been in it for the past week or so. Only thing I can gues is that the landlord decided to spray some kind of coverup or something that has now worn off and left me with this mind numbing stench of old rotten cat piss. So, is there any way to locate and get rid of this smell before I lose my mind? To me its one of the worst smells on the planet, and I've smelled some really funky stuff at work. I can't live like this. Any help is appreciated.

Probably in the carpet/pad.

You will need one of those fluorescent black lights to locate the source(s). Any pet store will sell some stuff called natures miracle that does a decent job of getting rid of cat piss out of the carpet with a steam cleaner, but the pad is a different story. I would pull the carpet section up and cut out the pissy pad and patch it.

Good luck.

LMAO, speaking of cat piss, my dad was standing in the driveway after work yesterday and their outdoor momma cat walked up to him and pissed on his leg! Was one of the funniest things I've seen.

a product called Odo-ban does a good job of removing the smell, but as stated you have to find the source first.

I got a 4ft black light you can borrow :D

I used to have an outdoor cat who would love to hop in cars with open windows and piss on the floor mats. LMAO

Just woke up n my girlfriend had gone to petsmart and got some kind of odor ememinator. Had to dig into the storage room, but found the ole 4ft black light. Now just gotta wait till dark.

I can promise you that if a cat pissed in my unit or my truck, there would be no stray cats within a mile of my apt.

I expected you would have one already :D

that just target practice :D

I would INSIST on having the landlord replace all the carpeting AND padding in the apartment. No matter what you do with the smell, there's still piss all over the place. You can't even lay on the floor to watch TV without laying on stale piss. INSIST on it, or tell him you'll call in the health department.
Also, for health reasons, avoid any carpet munching.

I will possibly have to go that route if this stuff don't work. It is localized in the hall way, so I think I can live with that.

Have him come in and smell it. NO WAY would I be walking barefoot through old cat piss. Not EVER!
Do it now, don't mask it. You're a new tenant, and nowhere in your lease did you agree to live with old urine.

I called her and left her a message already. I believe she is avoiding my calls. She knows what I do, so I doubt she will try n f me over, cuz I'll have this whole place shut down if she don't bring it up to par.

NOTHING scares a landlord more than a call to the health department. If she doesn't respond in the next day or two you'll know she's avoiding you. That's when you leave another message that she contact you in the next 24 hours and agree to replace the carpet or the health department will make her do it.

Bravo, Rolex! Bravo! That's exactly what to do. It should never have been allowed to be leased in that condition. When I moved into my apartment a couple of years ago, I found similar things to complain about. I almost called in the FDA who subsidize some of the tenants here to let them see it. It was fixed within 90 minutes.

One of the issues I feel that I will run across is in the lease, she waived the $500 pet fee if I kept the old carpet. But I had NO idea about the piss stains. She did a good job covering it up for the past week or so.

She withheld that info from you although she knew about it. At this point, at best, you should ask to have the hall carpet replaced.
Someone else already paid her $500 to let their cat piss on her carpet. It's not something you should live with.

If the urine has stained the floorboards/pad under the carpet you will need to do a very deep wash/clean of it or possibly have to replace the area of infection. I have done construction and replaced my fair share of piss infected bathrooms and pet/laundry rooms, absolutly gross...

Yea, found out that the maintinance man fell and broke his leg in 4 places the other day, but still no word from the landlord..........
