I am getting ready to paint my first body with this paint. The instructions suck. Do you back the faschange with the same color? Or do you back it with a different color, so it will switch between the two? Also, how many coats of the faschange do you put on before u back it? help! i want to paint this body tonight!

NA, welcome to the world of confusion. I just attempted to use Faschange Blue on the TVR Speed 6 that I posted. Let's just say it didn't work. Here's the issue. You'll notice the paint is milky white with a colored hue in the bottle. If you put too much on, this is the way it will dry. So my advice is to go easy on it. I read that you should use a medium tip and give the body a good dusting. But you shouldn't be able to see the milky color. The first time I did it, I got it wrong and had to strip the body. Then the second time I went too light and you can't see it. I would do one light coat first and let it dry. Then see if you can see the color from the outside. Roll the body around in the sun a bit to see if you can see the tint. If it's light, go with another light coat. But you shouldn't need much more than that. Then you can back it with whatever color you want. When you move the body, the paint should appear to switch between the colors.

If you're not sure, try it out on the inside of a clear plastic soda bottle first. That way you get an idea of how much paint you'll need. I didn't do that. And I should have. That way you're not killing a body with your experiment.

Okay - I got the Faschange purple. If i want it to switch between purple and red, could i back it with faspearl red? then when i take it in the sun, it should flip between those two colors, right?

My LHS told me i should only back it with white - but that doesn't sound right. This has to work, because i spent 4 hours last night, just masking off this damn body - gonna be a concourse winner i tell ya! lol.

if i backed faschange purple, with faspearl purple, would that do anything? or would it just cancel each other out?

I assumed he was talking about Faschange which is that milky white stuff. Gotta go light with it. Backing it in white will make the change effect more evident. As long as you want a white body. But you can back it in anything. I wouldn't back it in the same basic color as the difference won't be seen. So don't back the Faschange Purple in Fasescent or Faspearl Purple. I think it would look cool backed in Faspearl Red. Eddy did a micro body like that earlier...

I think i saw a pic of that body - a corvette right? is that how it was painted? yes eddy - i am using the faschange purple - it looks mily in the bottle, with a hue of the color purple when u look at it right.

I didn't use Faschange :nope: for mine. I used Fasescent Candy Red. Its Candy Red with Purple Highlights. Its the Cheaters paint for color-change. Just spray it on and back it with white.

Ill duck out of this thread and let the Master Candy guide you with his wisdom.:D

yeah - the only thing that concerned me - i want the color to be purple. i am concerned that if i use faschange purple and back it with red, it will look red with purple highlights. i want it to look purple with red highlights. do i have to reverse my paint colors, or can i just pur on the faschange purple a little darker?

Its hard to catch the change on film but here is my best try.

If you want a purple car with red accents, you'd have to get Faschange Red (40185) then back it with the purple of your choice. If you spray the Faspearl Red first, no matter how light, it will mask the Faschange. Gotta think backwards. You want a purple body essentially, so that will be your backing color. If you want the red highlights, then get the Faschange Red.

If you want a dramatic effect, you will need to use the Fasflip, which is the only waterbased paint that truly changes color. If you use the faschange, you can achieve subtle effects, but they wont be dramatic. You will spray it lightly, and back it with whatever color you choose. I used faschange gold, backed in fascent white, and the effect was pretty cool.

ok i think i got it - grrr - this means it wont be ready by tomorrow for the race, which it needs to be, since i will have to return the paint i got, and get new paint. i think i am gonna try this - i am going to paint on the faschange purple that i have - then back it with a light dusting of pearl white, followed by a backing of fascent purple. i think that should look pretty good. maybe not a full color change, but definitly dramatic. there are sections of this car that have a ripped effect, with neon yellow/orange fade in them, so it has to be purple, otherwise, it wont match. thanks guys!

Sucks not getting the right thang and having to take it back, but at least you got it from a LHS

yeah i live n die by the LHS - its okay though, I'm not gonna return it, I'm gonna make do, read my last post, and see what i have planned - wish me luck!

Well - its finished, and WOW!!!!! looks great!

I MUST take some pictures today here at work, and post them, this is the best body I've done so far.

I used 2 coats of Faschange purple, followed by 2 coats of pactra pearl white, backed with 3 coats of fascent purple, then a final backing coat of black. along the car, on 1 side, and on the corners of the front and rear, there is a ripped effect, exposing fascent orange fading into fascent yellow, with a backing of silver to give it a metallic look too.

the purple changes from a dark purple/blue - to a lighter purple/red its amazing! I'm so proud of myself.

oh, and the wing is also the faschange purple, with the side peices being yellow, with a orange border fade.

BTW - thanks eddy and candyman for all your help!

Make sure when you take those pics you use some strong lighting. Take a bunch at different angles to give us the effect. A 360 if you will.

Congrats on layin the paint down! I can't wait to see it!

You do realize that posting props about your finished body WITHOUT posting pictures is grounds for 50 lashes with a wet noodle...

Or are we going to start talking about the pineapple again?

I agree, it's like starting a story with "I know this guy who...."

Come on nitroaddict, put up or shut up, or as my pops used to say: "poop or get off the pot."
