I bought my son a rustler awhile back.I have upgraded the motor and know this thing gets so hot it unbelievable!! I have temped the ESC and it was running at a 130 degrees and the packs was at 125. How do I correct this?

He is running venom 1800 packs and a 13x1 venom motor. the ESC is the Traxxas unit that came with the RTR package. Does the gearing need changed??

Please help!!!!

Thanks
Stan

Ummmmmm,Is the traxxas esc capable of handling the 13x1,I've never seen a traxxas esc that could handle that.

couldnt tell ya!! I know nothing about a ESC of any brand. I am tired of him burning his self when changing packs. I know things should not get that hot. I race nitro cars and people that I have pitted beside that ran electric, Their stuff never got this hot.

Thanks
Stan

Well your problem could be,that your esc shouldn't be running that kinda motor, all traxxas esc's I've seen can only run 20t motors,so what I'm thinking is,the motor is pulling so much juice, that the resistant's in the esc is causing it all to heat up,the battery pack would also heat up from too much resistant's through the esc.my suggestion, change the esc to something that can handle a 13t motor, like a lrp, tekin or novak.

By the way, what's the esc named?

The Traxxas xl-1 can handle a 17 turn motor with the proper gearing. You need to buy another esc that can handle the motor or buy another motor that the esc can handle. If you go to a 17 turn motor you will need to change the gearing, a good place to start would be with a 14/15 tooth pinion. If it runs cool you can try going up a tooth but one of those gears will most likely be what your looking for. If you continue to run the 13t on the xl-1 it will be nice and toasty very soon. If you buy an esc that can handle the 13t motor you will still need to change the gearing.

If for some odd reason your rusty came with the Traxxas xl-10 esc it can handle down to a 10t motor, you will still need to re gear as stated above.

Hope this helps :wasted:
