I'm setting up a TC3 for on road parking lot racing.
What are some of the better ESCs that you guys are using?
I'm looking for something good that will handle most any motor / battery combo I may need to use if I change up classes.

you can try the novak gtx, lrp quantum competition 2, or the KO propo vfs-1. all 3 are good speedos. i use a novak gtx in my 1/12 scale car. i only problem i have with it is that the case broke from a huge crash. for my xray T1FK05 i am going to give the LRP quantum competition 2 a shot. i haven't tried a KO propo vfs-1 personally but i heard that it's programming capability is outstanding.

Can't go wrong with the Novak GT7... has even more features than the GTX and is one of the best ESC's... My brother put it in his B4 and it rips like no other. Its so easy to setup and i Highly recommend it. If you can spend $157, i would get it. Handles anything....

I had a GT7 at one point and sold it. I never even has a chance to install it nor use it. At the time it was the hottest thing going. From what I'm reading now it seems as if its still the one to get. It hasnt dropped in price either.

GTX has a smaller fotprint and they did away with that external resistor that the GT7 uses. I forgot what it's called but the gtx is the updated version of the gt7. Great for when space and weight is important.

the gtx has an internal schottky diode. the GT7 has an external one. either one is good. it's all a matter of preference.

The gtx has that little thing that hangs off of it that looks like a battery, i think that is the diode.

Actually, the GT7 is the one with the external diode. That's what I run in my 1/12. The GTX is what sl0eg1n runs and it's diode is internal.

My brother got a GTX and it was a dud.. Figures, it was probably 1 out of 250 that was a dud. I've heard that NOVAK usually doesn't make duds often. If it wasn't i'd give you a review. One thing i learned when i had to program it was i didn't like the setup button. If your chassis has tall parts it is hard to get your fingers into. The GT7 on the other hand it on the top. BUT even I (14) had trouble pushing the tiny button. It almost fit into my finger nail which was bad cuz i didn't know if i pressed it r not. But i still recommend the GT7. who cares about the external diode and who cares about a tiny bit bigger. Its not gonna affect much at all. Unless you are one of those guys who keeps track of every little detail. :2cents:

Well, if you're going to race on-road electric or any kind of electric competatively, yeah details are important. If you're just bashing around then it doesn't matter. As far as the setbutton, you're supposed to use a small precision flathead screwdriver.

Ed, are you going to start racing electrics?

you would definitely care about the size of a speedo when you have limited real estate in your car. this is very critical in on-road touring because there is very limited space. i have xray T1FK05. There is not much space to play around with.

the battery looking thing is a power capacitor. both the GTX and GT7 have one. the piece that diver and i are referring to is the schottky diode. it's a diode that is used on the wires connecting the speedo to the motor. this usually makes wire management a hassle.

Hobby Town is in the same shopping center as my new store. They will be having racing once or twice a month. How competitive will it be? Dont know yet.

I just picked up a used TC3 FT roller. I'm sure a good stock motor and decent set of batts will get me by for the class I choose. From there I will have to see how into it I will get.

So yes, I will be racing

Well, stick with the sportsman class (stock). At least that way you really won't be worrying too much about battery consumption. IF, and I know you probably will, get hooked ... upgrade the chassis to the BMI chassis. It's more rigid and flex is not present. Once I know you're hooked, and you make it out here to NYC, I know where to take you to go race your electric.

Does that hobby town plan on doing 1/12 racing as well? I may have to bring a few things extra when I make it out there. :smoke:

The HT isnt that well received by the locals here so who knows. I'm going to hang and see what comes of it. There is a lot of politics involved with our LHS. All the racers go there and look at HT as a carpet bagger taking sales away from our LHS. I'm treading on thin Ice even going in there.

Norcal has some awesome competition at the club level. If your coming out during the summer you can race with some of the best. Electric touring and Oval are both huge 10th and 12th. A local here just took 2nd or 3rd in 12th oval at the Snow Birds. Look in this months RCX for Jake Rosen. He ownes our LHS.
