Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new more powerful engine for my rebuilt sportmaxx. I don't want to deal with the TRX 2.5, been there done that. I'm currently running an OS 15 cv-r(x) and I want more snap and prefferably lower temps. The only way I can see this happening is to get something with more HP.

After digging around on prices and whatnot, I found an epic 18 for $129. Keep in mind I'm in this only for fun, so a racing engine and racing engine prices aren't what I'm looking for.

I'm just looking for opinions and advice on how the epic really performs and how long I could expect it to last with good maintenace.

Thanks

my friend got one for his maxx...it was too power for the tranny so nows its all metal and he keeps breaking things he normaly wouldnt break..but yeah its powerful...

I'm the guy who got it. i love it. it starts so easy, and none of the stocl t-maxx drivetrain parts can handle it. its also very easy to tune. i absolutly recomend you getting one. or two, or three...

and for 130, you ar getting a good price. i think it acually gets a maxx in the ballpark of a sirio 18

I'm looking at the orion wasp 18 now. It's a little less power, but I don't want to keep sticking $ into my "play" maxx like I did my 21 maxx. I just want enough power to pull the front off he ground and to not heat up on me so bad. I don't want so much that I have to replace the whole driveline again. I can't afford it anymore, so I want to stay with something I can play around with and not worry that I'm trashing it.

Thanks for the input though. From what I've read, the epic is to much power for what I want.

I have a wasp .18 for my t-maxx. It was very easy to break-in, and it runs really great. I can't get the front wheels off the ground, but i think thats because I'm running a 65T spur gear. It starts right up really easy, and Team Orion support is great. the only thing I would suggest is getting a RRP steel spur gear, because the plastic one will get worn very easily. I'll see if I can get a video on it soon, and I'll get it on here. O yea, if you want the wasp to get maximum power, get a paris turbo ribbed pipe. Good luck with your decision!

I have the same dilema as olds. I am going to sell my Maxx, save some coin, and pick up a Savage. My son however will get alll my good parts. I want him to have a decent engine to pull it around, but not enough to rip up the transmission.

I also want something he can tune without having me hold the temp gun all day long. After running the XTM .18 in a stadium truvk, the 15's from traxxas just bite for starting and tuning. If I knew the .18 from XTM would pull a maxx no problem, I'd buy it in a heartbeat so easy to tune and keep cool..I love it..

Sorry It was a bit late last night, and playing black jack all night must have affected my brain.. I read my post..it made no sense...

The XTM .18 I had in my stadium truck , it was a rocket and a pleasure to tune/run.

I took it out, cut the crank, and was about to put it in the maxx, when I sheared a head bolt off in the block.

I didn't run the XTM in the maxx yet. What I meant to say is that I think it would do extremely well. I just haven't had a chance to run it in a maxx yet.
