Hey guys - i am new to the hobby and want to purchase an RTR nitro buggy.

what is a descent car under 300? thanks

People maybe not like to trust ebay but i personally have had nothing but good experience with ebay. I've never owned a redcat so i dont know the quality but i think this would be a decent beginner buggy.

I would start off with 20% nitro fuel its the most commonly used fuel for nitro and just easy on the engine.

I would not get a Redcat. They don't have a really good reputation. Try looking for a Losi, Associated, Traxxas or HPI branded vehicle. OFNA is a decent brand as well. Try this one:

eBay isn't well regarded for hobby sales by a lot of people. Try to support reputable hobby shops like A-Main.

First car is best to buy new and to buy from amain, horizon hobby, so on. Nitro is finicky anyways and you don't want to buy someone else's problem when your new to the hobby.

sometimes the best way to pick is to go to your lhs and look around and ask alot of questions and see what they stock on a regular basis. that way you dont have to order every part you will end up needing or wanting..

And yeah new for the first one is always best!!! You never know how a used one was treated or broken in.. they could always be getting ready to go so it was time for them to sell and buy new because they dont know how to work on them or something....

traxxas nitro rustler , Traxxas nitro sport, alittle bit more is a traxxas tmaxx,just for starters.

Hpi is good to the firestorm, rs4mt2 is a good one too I have the onroad version and love it(after I went to pullstart that is)

Losi ten-t and so on I can't think of all the names but make sure you know if you want 2wd or 4wd how big you want it and like I staited earlier make sure your lhs stocks the parts and some hop-ups.....also go buy what kind of driving style you will be driving- bashing, short course racing, pavement racing, indoor(even though indoor is normally electric)..

I have 3 redcats in the house that arent to bad for what I paid for them they were like 200 but to get the parts I have to order all the parts unless I can figure out if anything else will fit and get it too.. good luck!!!

I dont know about redcat but i know on ebay actually you do get the same quality stuff just like any other hobby online store just the hobby online store typically has the latest stuff that was released. But I've ordered tons of things for my rc's off ebay and have yet to have an issue with quality and i can nearly find everything for my truggy and monster truck on ebay for way cheaper than retail witch is affordable for me.

I'm just trying to save him money from showing him a site that has great selection of parts and accessories. I even bought my savage x 4.6 from ebay because my local shop and other online places wanted about 60-90 dollars more and the quality was no different.

But yeah for a whole rc i would say stick with name brand but it seems like red cat is actually making some decent stuff for beginners for affordable prices witch is always nice.

Those are different classes though. Rustler is truggy, the LX2 is buggy.

Its you choice but i think the ultra lx2 is a great choice. 4wd compared to the overpowered rustler. even though its a 2.5 the rustler has little control compared to that LX2, 4wd makes a huge difference and its really nice to have so much control.

Where do you plan to run the vehicle? Whether it be dirt or grass, the buggy will get around better.

Any club racing involved or are you only a basher like me?

IMHO, the buggy will handle better, take more abuse and stop/start better since it's 4wd. If I were having a toss up between 2wd stadium or 4wd buggy, I'd choose buggy.

^ i think that would be a better choice over the rustler.. i would replace the rustlers position with that.. I think he already did earlier he posted i believe between these two of witch to choose from because i remember giving him 2 video reviews in a different thread on both vehicles so he can get an idea of the 2.

honestly 4wd is easier to start with where as 2wd you have got to work at getting used to the drivin style alot more. I own both 2wd and 4wd and I dont know if I would buy a 2wd before a 4wd though with 4wd you can go alot more places with ease. and yeah redcat is putting out alittle better quality but it is alot easier to get a rig that a lhs carries parts for so you dont have to order everything. plus when you first start out you are sometimes better off at a place you can ask questions about certain parts before you buy them blindly... good luck and make sure you are happy with what you pick cause you will be living with your decision..

The Rustler is actually a stadium truck. Anyway, they both are good cars. Ofna makes great nitros and buggies. if you do like stadium trucks, I would recommend the nitro sport by traxxas. EZ start, ,15 engine, cheap.

Your correct. for some reason i just consider any rc that has that body and chassis style i consider it a truggy. only difference in my opinion is the tires. but then again i guess the 4x4 would consider it a truggy over a stadium i guess i just generalize the 2 as truggy's.

my friends here have some of the best advice. i found that picking a really good hobbie shop, is important. go to some place where people bash, and ask around, to get what shop to go to. is more important than the brand of rc car.

well are you looking for something for off road or street ??

For street thats a decent price sometimes for beginners you dont wanna spend too much because usually the more expensive they are the more experience you need to maintain it and working properly.

Heres a list of RC's you can look into to find out witch will best suit your needs and determine witch is best for your surroundings. I would look on google images and copy and paste each name listed below and look what best suits your interest.

RC Truggy 4x4
RC stadium truck 2x4
RC monster truck 4x4
RC car somtimes 4x4 and 2x4
RC buggy 4x4


And you can put nitro or electric before each one witch ever you want.

4x4 is very easy to adapt to so maybe choose one of the 4x4 rc's and then let us know witch one you want so we can help you find the one you can afford !
