the tires that ballooned were HPI's belted slicks, my dad says belted tires should not balloon.

Speaking of my dad, he has a RS4 2, and wants to know the websites of companies that make parts for it.

i visited the Hardcore web page, they do not have a product section for the RS4 3...

all rubber tires will balloon to some degree. If you go to the racetrack and look at all the nitro cars there. u will never, ever see a single one running rubber tires. get some foams, and u will feel as if u won the lotto.

What type of parts? Are you guys racing, or just playing?

anything and everything, i want to compile a list so that when the time comes, i'll mod it for race, but right now we're just playing...

go watch the racers one day - u will find that most who win, have not modified their cars at all. mods do nothing if u can't currently out drive the setup u have. stick with the basics right now, once your car will run perfectly, and reliably - plus, you can drive exceptionally well, without mishap, and u feel as if u can drive better than your car can handle, then start with the upgrades. But for now, just get a better pipe, to avoid the leaking, it will also increase performance, and get some foams. along with that, if u really want to start racing, or at least parking lot race against your pop, get a goos proline stratus 2.1 body to help with downforce. thats about all the hop ups i would recommend.

what about parts for style? like the purple aluminum that so popular? the hotbodies aluminum parts for the RS4 3 on their website don't have pictures, and i'm dying to know if they'll be worth it, where can i find pictures.

Also where can i find high quality foams? do they require the foam inserts like the rubbers do?

I'm not a huge fan of aluminium parts on TC's - all u are doing is spending money on "pretty" parts that dont hold up as well as the plastic ones, then bend and cost u a fortune to replace. Ill see what i can dig up though.

as for foams, no inserts. all they are is a solid piece of foam preglued onto a solidrim. here is a pic of some, u can get them at your LHS or any mail order place such as towerhobbies.

These are the tires i use:

Thanks for the information! However, i would like to lighten my car up. i hadn't used it for a week, and when i used it again i couldn't believe how heavy it was. I know HPI offers front + rear shock towers, bumper plate, and an upper deck for my car, but they're slow in making new parts for it.

BTW, is the R40 a formidable opponent to the NTC3?

do some looking - u will find that most alum. parts are no lighter than the plastic versions.

hard to tell - its too new yet - we will have to wait and see. While i think the R40 is a great car from what i have seen, if i were looking for a true belt driven racer, i would spend a couple mroe bucks and go with the 705 or the mtx3.

my good friend, screen name racerx, just bought the R40, should have it out at our weekly thursday night bash session. ill give everyone a heads up

the R40 is pretty cool since all you need to do is drop in an engine , muffler and radio . THe set up that it has already has a graphite upper deck, 2 speed , foam tires and I think CVD's but not too sure on that one. Only thing is it is Belt driven so watch out for those pebbles! The set up of the gas tank is centered so that will help with the issue of gravity. Also to add the center of gravity was worked on and is supposed to be lower!!

go check it out! WWW.HPIRACING.COM

I still want my NTC3. :D

Hey NA, while you're there at the bash tonight get some some video for us of the R40 in action! that would be awesome.

We have a track or two where I live, but there's not a lot of people that i know of that are interested in the hobby, though i could race against my dad's RS4 2. he has a porsche body on it. he also owns a 2002 Porsche 911, and myself a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3, my focus could spank the 911's ass any day. the same can be said about the RC cars, mine can beat his...once its dialled in, that is.

But i digress, my dad was amazed at the performance gains i got with my fuel filter, so he gave me some money to buy him one after i leave school today. Even though it's supposed to rain today, the roads hae started to dry.

One question, when dad and I were at an RC show, we saw a vendor selling "turbo" kits for nitro cars. What do you know about these "turbos"?

gthang - unfortunatly, i have no vidoe camera, just a regular camera.

as for turbo's - what u saw was a super charger, not a turbocharger, u cannot turbocharge a car that doesn't have fuel injection.

regarding the superchrger, from most people's opinions, little, if any at all gains would be noticed. There is alot of scientific theory that it can't work, but i have yet to know anyone who has seen, or tried one so i cannot say for sure.

regarding performance gains from the fuel filter - great placebo, aint it! lol. No performance gains will be had from a filter, but it may seem that way, just like it seems your car drives better after u wash it, lol.

My dad doesn't have a digital video cam, but his old video card in the computer came with a device that had rca style plugs so you can watch your videos on the computer, even save as mpgs. If you have one of these devices, i'm sure you can find a way to enable people like me who can't enjoy the fun of RC bashes (yet!) to see what it's really like.

As for GPM Racing's website, it's www.gpmracing.com.hk .

Not a lot of people offer parts for Nitro RS4 3, and those that do, don't have pictures on their websites, companies like hotbodies, and hardcore racing. But i checked GPM's website, and it RS4 3 catalog is one huge collection of aluminum parts, one part is available in aluminum or graphite.

BTW is there a difference between carbon fiber, and carbon graphite, or is it just a different name?

carbon fiber - the stuff u know and love.

carbon graphite - looks like gray plastic, only much stronger.

The reason i asked was due to the fact that some companies have woven graphite parts (aka carbon fiber, which i have on my dashboard in my Focus.)

The pullstart came undone for what seems like the 10th time. We're thinking of switching to roto-start or similar. can the Type SS be converted?

What do i need to convert?

go check out http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm and scroll down to the roto start option. They say that it is compatible with the RTR-3/ SS. When you buy the kit you recieve everything minus the battery and charger. Yeah I would have threw in those to make it RTU.

On my RS4 3 the right rear dogbone probably gets in the way of any rotostart devices. hence the rotostart question.

I have my mind set on HGI's Yank Eliminator, is it any good?

well if the manufacturer says it will fit I won't doubt them. BTW are you using the 12RSS engine? I like the Yank Eliminator myself cuz it's cheaper

Plus you have a drill you know that works well as opposed to a drill they give you that you aren't too sure will last or is durable.

gthang, why not just break down, and go with all the pros - get a starter box. u will not be dissapointed

Well, my pullstart was taken off, and what do i find but the spring broke at the center section where it goes into the hole. Tough luck, huh? So my dad went looking around the garage for something to make a starter out of, he found a dish that we used to feed our hamster (died a decade ago i think), and he also had a powerful motor with a half-inch diameter bolt that was at least a foot and a half long. he drilled a half-inch hole in the dish, then we bolted it on, but we were afraid it would be too fast. So my dad took one of his drill's buffer bits (looks like a dremel saw, with the screw in the shaft) took the buffer section off, and put the dish on. We then put the car on the makeshift starterbox, it was able to spin the flywheel, but we could never get it started, but it was pretty clever. i will see if i can post pics soon.

Also when i can run it, my next-door neighbor has not repaved her driveway, and it's just gravel, and very cracked pavement. so one time i crashed my SS into her driveway, set it upright, and had my dad snap a few pictures of my car leaving the driveway. even though it's hard to keep it straight (gravel), there's a nice jump at the end going to the road, and dad got a pretty nice airborne shot!

Anyone want to see an airborne RS4 3?
