ok, i have the HPI nitro star t-15 engine. Inside, behind the back plate, the little piece that sticks out of the shaft that the starter shaft in the backplate hooks to, has a tiny spring inside it and then a little metal piece and every revalution it catches the starter shaft to turn it, i lost the spring. SO now i have no way of starting it! does anyone have a solution or any idea what i should do? i am pretty ticked at myself for losing it.

thats what i was thinking, but no. this thing is like a mm long. and about as big around of a tip of a pen.

your talking about the pressure spring (i think thats what its called) I just took mine out and it is way to small for a pen. I think the only thing is to buy a replacement.

It is the spring that goes in the conrod correct?

Wow! Sorry... I wonder what the point of a design like that is... I should have tore my 15FE apart when I had it so I'd know.

Bic lighters have a small spring in them pushing up on the flint... They aren't very big around. They are long, but you could cut it.

Found the part at tower for you though: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGEH0&P=7

Yeah, i just tore down a t-15 engine, and that spring is small... better off getting a factory replacement.

Hi,

Olds97 hit the nail on the head. Nice find, woud've never thought that hpi would actually sell that part. Figured you have to call 'em direct. The purpose for this is that it is intended to give the engine less rotating mass (no constant connection between the crankshaft and the starting shaft on the backplate. Thus allowing higher rpm's....potentially. When I broke mine in, I almost freaked when I heard the odd little clink sound it makes during normal engine operation...I thought something was going to blow during break-in. :hammer:

hey olds. thanx alot man! i was freaking out thinking i couldent get another!

it still sucks i have to pay $3 +shipping for this stupid thing!

i think all HPI mills have this thing in them ,the .25 off my savage did as well and they are a PITA if you drop it they are so small thank god for a good magnet ,i would have never seen it

ok olds, lighter spring, PERFECT FIT!!!!!!!!!! just gotta cut it to see if its the right compression.

just got it cut and put together, fits and works like a dream! thanks alot olds!

"F" and his brother "U" come to mind...

When you live in the sticks and the closest hobby shop is an hour car ride away, you tend to learn to make due with what you have.

Besides, they don't make a hose clamp that small.

yeah, its weird because its a PERFECT fit in there. i just took a dremel and shaved the spring one rung at a time until it fit and worked just right. took me about 7 min.

hey, it saved me $3++ shipping, plus a long wait for it to come in the mail!
