Hey guys, I have a friend of mine with an old school Associated RC10GT (rtr version) that he recently got when switching over from airsoft to RC in a trade.....he left the fuel in the tank for about a month. no usage. and now it won't start. is there any way to revive the engine? like a certain part to clean out or replace?

and the engine inside is a AE .15 Part number asc 2915

Thanks in Advance

You will have to pull the engine apart and clean all the gunk out of it first. Then replace the glow plug and get some fresh fuel. if it has any pinch left it should start.

Pull the engine completely apart and clean it very well, and put back together, should be fine, just make sure you put everything back together the way it came apart, take pictures if need be, theres a certain way the piston and sleeve goes back in.

dont forget the carb. you probibly have gunk in your carb not allowing your fuel to get through.

Clean the tank out with new fuel, you MAY have to replace the fuel lines, if it was only a month you MAY not have to pull the engine completely apart. I worked on 3 Revos that sat up for a few years and all I had to do was clean the tanks, replace the lines and spray some WD-40 into the carb and engine. If it is so bad that it won't turn over though, you will be tearing an engine apart.

The engine turns and the pull start feels the way it should be

thanks for the input guys, i'll clean up the entire engine just to be safe.

and how bad is it to have a lightly rusted piece in the engine?

That will probably depend on the part and the extent of the rust.

the part on the right connects to the pull start and i'm not sure if the part on the left is rusted around the edge...or if its the natural color of that part (gasket?)and how do i go about cleaning out the engine? mineral spirits, wd40, compressed air, or whatnot?

Thanks again for all the help guys

my cousins little rc car sat for over a year.... without afterrun maintenance and with fuel in the tank and lines :P we put a new plug in it. primed it, and bam it started and ran fine :)

well since you are tearing down I would clean everything peice by peice .But I would also seal the engine snce it is tore down.

If you are takeing out the piston and sleeve see how far you can push the piston through the sleeve from the bottom without to much force ,if it goes almost to the top or out of the top of the sleeve you should either replace the piston and sleeve or have the repinch done

just a thought
