1. How do you tell if your crankshaft is bad? I see perfectly horizinontal scratch marks/rings/lines, on the crankshaft , but not the piston (see picture). Still, the engine runs fine to my knowledge with one quirck below. Anyway,HPI webpage makes it out to be a very serious problem to have horizinontal scratch marks so i'm kinda worried. I took a picture of it


2. If I killed the engine by plugging up the muffler stinger and after ran out of gas I always have a hard time starting it up again unless I turn the engine over at full throttle for a few seconds without the glow plug first. Keep in mind it always starts up immediately after I do the above trick, but rarely does it start when I do not.

when you plug the stinger your in effect flooding the motor to stall it out. so a few more pulls to evacuate the excess fuel on your next start isnt out of the ordinarry at all.

i dont know about the lines on the crank, but if the motor apparently runs fine, imo, i say Drive the hell out of it.

Does anyone know anything about the crankshaft?
 
There is nothing wrong with the lines that is normal. There will be marks you just don't want gouges in it. The crank looks like it is in great shape.

You are thinking you are having a hard time starting it you are not. You need to get fuel back into the engine before it will start. This is called priming.

If you are not running hot and you have lots of smoke. I must say I go with Timmahh and run the hell out if it.
