I recently bought a tuned pipe fo my .12 engine it has been horrible its been overheating in 25 degree weather is thic common or what can i do to make it stop?

my truck is a duratrax maximum st

my engine is a torq 12

my pipe is a tuned pipe from duratrax

that should be all the information u need to tell me whats wrong rite? would a new engine help anything or maybe putting the stock muffler back on ? i like the sound and power the pipe makes but it is ruiniung my engine what can i do?

Thanks

You will have to retune the engine because you installed that new pipe. Set the engine to factory settings and go from there.

i also am having a problem with it getting full speed i have the throttle gunned on my controler and the truck seems to be anly going haf of the spped its supposed to what is wrong and what can i do to fix it? i have the felling it is the slipper clutch am i correct if not correct me. and when ever i let up on the throttel it stalls on me and it is really hard to start after it stalls is that a sign of overheating? or a sign of a bad engine etc? What would be the best engine for my truck a bigger than a .12 and an engine for under 150$ ? somthing that will make my truck do 40 and not 32mph thank alot......nick

the engine needs to be tuned. It has the symptoms of being lean.
if your engine is out of tune it will have all the problems you mentioned.

Yes those little screws on the carbureator really do make that big of a difference. It will run hot. Then it won't want to start back up until it cools.

You're running in 25 degree weather? This would explain the overheating. You need to richen it up a bit. The colder weather means denser air - more oxygen, less nitro.

And as stated you should retune for the new pipe as well. Sounds as if you're starving the engine of nitro. Then again, if you've been running it that way for a while it may be toast. Try richening your settings a bit and see what happens.

what about on the controler i can adjust the throttel on the srvos and stuff

well if my engine is toast what can i do can i rebuild it or what poarts need to be new and stuff

If I understand what you're saying... no. I think you're referring to the trim on the Tx?

I've been running it that way for 3 tanks of gas do u think that killed it ?????? or what

Running lean for too long will indeed cause problems. Maybe it's toast, maybe it's fine.

Set everything back to factory settings and see if you can tune it from there.

Read the manual. Set the needles to the factory settings.

Take it out and run it with the factory needle settings. If its boggin a little bit, and has a bit of a gurgle sound, then lean it up a bit.

You havent run it tuned yet, so aside from taking it apart you're not going to know if it has enough power to suit you, or it needs to be rebuilt.

When tuned RIGHT even an old worn out motor will move the truck enough to keep you happy.

A brand new motor with a bad tune will still not start when it gets hot. It will also stall after a full throttle run.

I suggest DON"T rebuild your motor until you can tune it right. Otherwise you will fry another one, sooner or latter it will get cost prohbitive, and you will want to give up.

I have a engine by all means that should be rebuilt. It still starts on the first pull. It still pulls the t-maxx around. It has plenty of power for my kids to learn on. (when tuned right)

Should it be rebuilt, by all means yes. Do I have to rebuilt it yet? No, not until it won't start, or won't move the T-maxx. Basically, rebuild time is up to you.
