RC Driving Style
I have the madstorm with the .28 nitro engine. 4 wheel drive from exceed rc. Its a 1/8 truck. I am new to this hobby. I was driving it down the road and it just shut off. Now every time i pull the pull start every wheel on it turns. So i figured i should take the clutch off and see if there was dirt in it. Of couse there isnt but it had some kind of notches on the clutch bell and the shoes have silver stuff all over them. So i figured the it was probably catching on those. So i took my dremel and grinded all down and figured it would work. Unfournately i crank the motor up and the motor did is spin. Didnt turn the wheels. I know i Probably going to have to replace the clutch shoes and clutch bell since i did some grinding but everywhere i look at clutch shoes there real slick like mine. So what should i do? Is there something i need to replace? Should i keep my same clutch bell and shoes on and there is something else that could be wrong? I need help asap!!!!!!

my post

so if i replace the clutch springs and shoes. and a new bell. That should fix the problem?

If i read your post right it will. Sounds like your shoes were worn out. So by replacing the bell shoes and spring with new ones you should be good to go.

Never use a dremel on the clutch bell. Only use emery cloth (80-120 grit sand paper) and do it by hand. Maintenance on your clutch and bell will prolong the life considerably. I de-glaze mine every 2 weeks of racing. Change bearings every 4 weeks depending on how they feel. If smooth I add a drop of bearing oil, if not smooth then I replace them. Check specs on the minimum diameter on the shoes and replace when needed. I go through 4 sets of shoes per bell. Clutch bells also have a maximum diameter. So keep up on tolerances to keep it going strong without problems. Good luck !!
