do you have to buy a head specific to the engine?
I've seen loads about but I'm unsure what will fit and what wont...
now I've just broken one of the fins on mine so i think ill replace the head

You can replace it with the same head (new), or get an aftermarket head specified for that engine.
It has to be specified.

One fin wont hurt anything, you should be fine. Unless you want a head that will run cooler, and yes you need a specific head for your engine. What is it?

its a standard engine from an NTC3 associated. and its size .12

just checked and I've lost about 1/2 of 2 fins... is that ok?
i think thats all thats happened at the minute, but went to pull start it and it looked like some crap came out of the exhaust, like a black smoke type effort.

Did the air filter come off and suck in anything

no it was still on. I've taken it to bits and made sure everything is running ok and all seems good. I'm going to buy a few parts today for it cos a couple of screws got rounded when I've taken the engine off a few times, when its back on the car well see ifit runs ok.

you dont need to buy the same brand head that the engine is just buy a head that is the same that you need.Like if its a .15 get a .15 head .12 get a .12 head ect.

so what you're saying is that all .12 heads are the same?

NO, they are not. Some of the bolt patterns may be different. You need a head specificly for that engine.

lol... bugger

ill just leave it on.
getting parts in the US seems a lot easier and CHEAPER! than it is over in the UK.
We pay nearly twice as much as you guys do, a guy said he wanted a new part earlier and i found it on a uk site, the american site listed it cheaper in dollars than in pounds! and thats before any exchange rate!!!
any way rant over

Cheers for your help guys
