engine hangs even when rich

Lower the idle gap some more, and use the lsn to fine tune a good idle.....but only if it's warmed up good.

Are you sure it's rich though? Is it cold out? Did you try richening the hsn some more?

the hsn is about 4 3/4 turns out that just seemed alot to me i'll richen it a bit more and see how it goes it is quite cold out i've never really run in cold weather before thanks for the help.

It's not uncommon to be past 5 turns out in the cold. If that doesn't help try closing the idle down a little more.

hsn is nearly 6 turns out but still hanging for like a second i think and car still performing well is this common for this to be that many turns out weather is about 50 degrees

how long does it take for it to return back to idle after releasing the throttle at wot pass is it instant or does it take a second and is it while the car is still moving fast or when you brake ?

if you have a good tune it should return to idle pretty fast.

it should return to idle as soon as you let off the throttle.

Pretty fast like one second or instant cause I think I may be worrying about nothing it idls fine and no matter how much I richen it still makes the same sound as I said before my hsn is at 6 turns out and car still has plenty of power could this be an air leak. also glow plug looks fine doesn't look like I'm running lean at all

You may be able to close the idle gap a wee bit, then use the lsn to tune the idle back in.

1 second of hang is really nothing to worry about IMO.

have you done the pinch test to see if it is to rich or to lean?

sometimes if it is to rich that will make your rpms hang a little. but if it is only hanging for 1 sec thats not to bad.

if its rich it hangs? i thought it only hangs when its too lean. yeh pinch test is about 4-5 seconds so its ok i think that what it might be on my carb after a certain point no matter how far i turn the screw out it no longer closes it stops

I'd like to find a solution to this also as I get the same problem on mine. But if I hit the brake the idle drops instantly to a nice quite low idle.

i've richened it out to the point where its not changing gear and it's still doing it, my idle gap is very tiny now, what happens is it comes back to idle straight away when doing short bursts but not after wot if i brake it returns pretty quick but if the car is rolling fast it doesn't, really bugging me now!

Hmm. This sounds exactly like what mine does. I've had my engine off now and sealed it but what with the snow, I don't know when I'll get to test it again.

I have quite a leak from my front bearing though behind the flywheel, but I'm not sure if a little is acceptable or not and if so, how much is ok.

If it's leaking then it's either too rich or the main bearing could be letting go. The front bearing does not seal the engine so if it's leaking you may have pother internal issues. The linkage could be an issue as well, just letting off and it hangs yet hitting the brakes makes it drop instantly means that it may not be closing all the way after you let off the throttle. You can pull the air filter and look down the carb to see what is going on.

This may be a little bit of an open ended question, but is their any linkage checks/settings or advice you can offer for a Traxxas TMaxx?

I'm new to the hobby and learning as I go, so if you could explain in novice terms it would be very much appreciated.

Linkage settings are in the manual. You want the linkage set so there's a little tension to hold the carb slide closed.

Hmm. I didn't see them, but I'll look again. Never have been good at reading manuals lol.

To be honest. I've probably put too much tension onto my throttle return spring.

I'll have a look through the manual.

Thanks.

Make sure the linkage collar isn't tight against the throttle servo horn. That will make it so the throttle can't close all the way, which renders the spring useless for closing the throttle. You may be able to back off the trim just a little on your radio too.
