OK,I am sure that threads just like this have been posted but I just want to post one of my own sooo....here goes. I need a good non pullstart rear exhaust engine for my recently purchased NTC3. yes yes thank you thank you (proud owner)lol. I want to spend about $150, I know it is not alot but all I got right now. I can get the HPI nitro star pro .12R XS for that, so does that seem like the best mill for the money?? Thanks guys

Race legal or non-race legal?

If race legal, get something like a o.s. 12 cv-r or maybe an o.s 12TR (but I dunno how much those cost)

I myself have been contemplting this issue for some time. I've been looking at the Wasp .12 Roar engine. And also the OS .12 tr. I have yet to decide and would like some help. OS has a great rep., but has anyone tried the Wasp. I see many people rant about the .26 in their Savage. I figure, maybe it's worth a shot.

For the money, thats where my investigations led me - right to the HPI Nitro Star Pro .12R XS - 1.35hp for $129 at Tower Hobbies, supposedly made for HPI by Novarossi. I did a search on this forum and a few of the guys said this motor is one to stay away from.

I also liked the OS .12 TR (P) Turbo, but it has a pilot shaft - I don't know for sure if a pilot shaft will fit in the NTC3, but it is rated at 1.3hp. Again, the forum reports this motor is hard to tune and several guys said the regular non-turbo .12 TR is the better engine and easier to tune, but only puts out 1.1hp.

One of the guys I race with just got the Novarossi NS12S3A1 (1.52hp, SG shaft) which is the engine Atsushi Hara used in his HPI R40 to win the 2003 ROAR fuel sedan national championship. It can be had for $100 more than what you were planning on spending, and it would probably be the last engine you'll ever need. Not to mention that your car would be competitive at a national race. I don't know how the HPI Nitro Star Pro would stack up against that.....

Well i've heard to generally stay away from HPI engines, if you ahve a a choice. I was originally gonna get some 1.25hp HPI engine, but heard bad things about it, so I got a novarossi CX12ps...that was some years back

As for engines fitting the ntc3. Anything will fit. You just need to get the right clutch nut. For threaded, you DO have to cut the shaft because it will be too long. I've had every combination of engines in my ntc3, so I know.

The engine that Atsushi Hara used in the ROAR nationals was a modded S3, which is a lot different than standard engines.

Crap, I hate it when this happens. Now I have no idea what to do. I guess race legal isnt that important because I will just be doing some local racing for awhile and they have open class for novices. I am just kinda stuck in that price range right now cuz I wanna buy a JRXS3 real bad.
