Alright, first of all, I have an RC10GT RTR. And well... I'm having some problems. AE .15 motor.

First... I have ran about 1.5 gallons of Traxxas Top Fuel 20% through it. Now, after an amazing glow plug death, I've been having more than a nightmare with the engine. It WILL NOT idle. Unless you warm it up really gentle.. like you're trying to break the engine in. Now, if I get onto the throttle, I don't have all the power I should, and when I let off, it doesn't think about idling in the least, only dying. I tried resetting to factory. Idle at 1/16" in carb opening. 1/16" pertruding low speed mixture screw, and 2.5 turns out on the high speed. Nothing.. Harder than hell to start, doesn't want to stay running. Cutting out like nothing else. And if and when you let off the gas, it dies. I made sure it wasn't my glow plug, I've tried 3 different ones. OS #8 as a matter of fact.

Now it wouldn't be such a nightmare to troubleshoot, but the pullstart assembly has self destructed about 10 times already, and it's nerve racking to get it working. Other than that I love it.

First, is the engine dead? It will run, but like I said, not for long. Second, is it worth putting a $20 starter on, or better idea to just get a new motor? And if so what motor should I get?

P.S. Everything is cleaned up and in great condition, it's not dirt or anything, it's just the settings on the carb, I hope...

Do you have a compression tester? this will answer alot of questions as to whether or not the engine is toast. It's also possible you have a piece of crap stuck in the carb needle assembly, or an air leak somewhere. Really need more info to better help you.

Well personally, I would look and see how much compression it has at this point. Just turn the flywheel counter clockwise and when it hits the compression stroke it should be a little tough to turn then a "pop" out of the pipe. If your motor turns over pretty easily then yeah it is worn out. I would take a look at the O.S. CV- Hyper or CV-R as a replacement. If you are looking for a non pull start then you can pick up a CV-R dor about$90 from tower........

CV-R

or the CV-Hyper for about $120, but you will need to cut the crank on this one.....

CV-Hyper

Now both of these motor are assuming you are bump starting them, the pull starts are a lil more. Hope this helps!

I am thinking the motor might be hashed if it wont run after it warms up. Especially if you have reset the carb to factory settings. What it sounds like is that your motor might be worn out, esp[ecially if once it warms up it wont run. This is tyipical of a worn out piston and sleve assembly. As far as the starter giving you hell thats possibly the one way bearing that is worn out which is causing you issues with the pull starter itself you can pull out the one way and clean it with some motor spray or denatured alchol then oil it and put it back in.

As far as the engine If you don't have a compression tester pull apart the engine and pull out the piston and sleeve if the piston goes all the way to the top of the sleeve its worn out. Let us know what happens when you pull out the piston and sleeve how far it goes up then we can diagnose from there. X

Well, me and a friend ripped it up, checked everything. It's proven dead. The piston has a bit of slap in the sleeve. I was going to send it in and get a replacement but I found a better deal at the local shop. Even got 20 bucks with trade in. So I went ahead and converted a bit. Took me a while, but I got a TRX Pro .15 motor into it. Break-in is painful.. Specially with a friend running his tmaxx beside me. I'm going to take about 8-10 tanks to break it in. Since it "was" for a tmaxx with a 125cc tank, I'll just go by that. 75cc blows. I'm saving up now for an OS hyper .15 :) I don't know how this motor will do, but it's doing fine with break in. I hate pullstarters by the way, such a ain in my pass. If you catch my drift. I can't wait to start ripping the ground up again. This time, I'm gonna stop leaning it out so far. :)

After you are out playing with your EZ Start and the battery dies a few times (thus ending your day) you will be happy with a pull start.

Congratulations on the "new" engine. Hope it works out for you. Do not be disappointed; but when you get the new OS in there, you'll wonder why you didn't just go that route in the first place. The OS will smoke your TRX Pro and spit it out like so much scrap metal.

Sorry Sky but I have to disagree with you here. You could also say that about a glow igniter too, thats what spare batteries are for. I have two ez start batteries and a 15 minute quickcharger that will work off my car battery, so dead batteries for either have never stopped me from bashing. I have a KHB easy start adapter on my OS and I am very happy I dont have to mess with a pull start on my T

Not everyone spends the extra money for a spare 7.2 battery pack and a quickcharger. For those that prefer the EZ Start to the pull start, those two things would be my first recommended acquisitions.

I'll stick with my pull start.

Glow starters suck. Period. End of sentence. hehe I hate that.. "c'mon baby fire for daddy" feeling when it's runnin low. lol

I like my pull start it just feels more reliable to me and a spare battery for a glow igniter is cheaper

What kind of glow igniters do you guys recommend?

I use a dynamite with a gauge on it. Any with a gauge I would say is cool its also good to have a backup that uses regular d or c cells incase your rechargable dies you can hit the neasest gas station and get some regular cells...X

mine is an ofna with a gauge my fiance even ran it through the washing machine and it still works fine

Sounds like a good idea, the shop has one that runs on C cells. I wasn't sure if it'd be worth it tho...

Yeah I need one of those alkaline igniters for a backup. I went to my LHS and they don't carry them.

My duratrax igniter started my car god only know how many times last saturday with only a six hour charge. I'm was impressed, but who knows who makes the igniter. I'm sure duratrax just slaps their name on em.

The rechargeable HotShots are good, BUT, all rechargeable Glo ignitors will be completely drained if connected for 10 minutes. So you can see the problem. At the beginning of a bash session they work well and by the end they suck.

However, I use a 1.5v Hobico battery and it works EXTREMELY well. 1 battery lasts the whole season.

I take both with me and when the rechargeable starts to fizzle out I switch up to the 1.5v.
