Hey guys. I just bought a car that had a axial 32 stuck on it. didnt have a ton of compression, but it runs (not strong though) anyways, tore it down and the sleeve is scuffed up, so I'm def looking at a rebuild.

so here is my questions,

how do i tell the difference between the RR and the spec 1.. I've googled, can't find the answer anywhere. I dont know what to order

also, i figure a complete rebuild would cost me about 150 (+ $$ for ceramics)

So I'm wondering if its worth it for me to rebuild this thing, and do a little work to it, or go ahead and spend a little more and get a new engine.. although i dont want to spend 300 bucks either..

thats where I'm at, just curious what you guys would do, I've heard the axial 32 isnt all that great, but i figure with new parts, a good blueprint (done by me by hand) and maybe a port job, then she will do something.. to be honest, I'm just considering making the parts myself since i have the material and access to the equipment to do it..

You don't have to spend $300 for a good motor. You can get a good motor for $150 to $200, which it seems like what you're looking at for a rebuild. Plus I've heard from people on here that Axial motors aren't that good to begin with, I'd go with a new motor if I were you.

What kind of car is it?

its a ofna gtp2 with a 2 speed tranny installed.. I know the axials arent that good.. i just dont know if a $150 engine would be as good as the axial if i spend some time on it... then again, i guess i could spend time on the new engine too.. LOL..

if anyone can tell me how to tell the difference between the spec 1 and the rr that might make the biggest difference. I think the spec 1 is the better engine?? (i think) so if its the rr, ill just get a new one.

Id look at putting a Picco P3 .28 in it. If thats not enough power for ya then have Robin from ERCM mod it for you and it will be off the chain. You can get a P3 .28 for about $180ish

The only thing your gonna get with a .32 that you wont with a .28 is more torque. Unless you can gear it tall enough to take advantage of the extra torque you arent gonna gain anything except maybe being able to break the tires loose a little easier. A .32 is overkill for an onroad car and besides the Picco .28 will out perform the Axial .32 anyway from what I've read about the Axial engines regardless of which type it is. If you're just dead set on having a .32 though Id look at an LRP .32 and get away from the Axial.

A good .28 will kick the crap out of the axial .32. In an onroad car the axial won't last long as the higher displacement engines are not good rpm engines at all, it will end up kicking itself apart much sooner then a .28 and won't have near the top end a .28 can pull. I would go with a picco .28, it's a MUCH better choice then any engine axial puts out.

Even fully modded the axial could never do this.

yes i realize that a good .28 will kick a axial .32s arse... but a good .28 wont beat a good .32 I'm not a r/c guru but i think thats pretty obvious lol. I got a awd car that i plan on loading up with cameras and tx/rx equipment and doing tight curvy tracks with it. i want the torque that that .32 has. I really appreciate your guys input though. please dont think I'm trying to sound smarter than you or like a stubborn kid, I'm just trying to figure out what the best route for the most tq is. from everything i have read the 32s are the way to go

An ERCM modded .28 is your best bet. The larger .32 doesn't usually have as much power or torque as the modded .28.

The picco .28 will have much more torque over the .32 due to the design, bigger isn't always better in the world of two stroke nitro engines.

so the modded .32 has less tourque at low rpm than the .28? thats just friggin odd... lol i mean ill take you guys word for it since you deal with it everyday, but I've built motors and messed with performance all my life and it just seems like the more cc's would do better.

It's all about the flow, the picco has triple exhaust ports and 5 big intake ports, that's why the .32 doesn't compare in both design or quality. The 69 mph savage speed truck needs loads of torque to get it rolling, the axial wouldn't have a chance at pushing that kind of gearing, I guarantee it

Picco doesn't make a .32 that I am aware of. If the LRP .32 had the build quality and design of the picco .28 then it would be an insane mill for sure. A properly modded picco by someone like robin who knows what he is doing will make some insane power. Likewise a picco modded by some guy in his garage that thinks he knows what he is doing will probably not run as good as a stock trx 3.3

You would have to send in an engine and it would cost about $270'ish for the mod, pipe and shipping. Build time is about a week and the only thing that will run "beside" you is another ERCM combo lol.

i also want you guys to help me with the clutch setup eventually.. I'm going with the buku.. i want to set it up so that it has sort of a gradual engagement, sort of like a slider clutch on a drag bike. that way when i pull out of corners i can make sure there is 0 bog at all. assuming i have to let off the throttle alot.

But if you don't like that option then the pull start version will probably fit in place of the axial.

There will be no bog coming out of corners unless you have traction compound and sticky tires lol, throttle control will be the issue. My products are a little spendy but when you pull that throttle with a performance tune, you won't regret one red cent of your purchase, I guarantee it!
