ok, so i hope to order one of these this week for a NTC3

so far i am leaning with choice number one. all the engines i am linking were listed on nitroreview.com

http://www.nitroreview.com/compare/homeengines.cfm

anyway, it is an amazing price, listed as 1.5 hp and 42000 rpm.
for 109 bucks, sg shaft or threaded. not sure which one i need yet though. all the other i have found seem to peek maybe at 3900-3800 rpm and range from 1.1 - 1.5 hp except for choice two which say 1.9 hp but i assume way more cash for it.

the last engine made by hpi seems to be a solid constructed engine as well. a little less on the hp but still quite up there.

anyway, although i have pretty much made up my mind on the picco i would like to see which of these other links you all might prefer. check the specs and then vote away. if anyone can change my mind go for it. i have never had a problem yet tunning a picco so that does not scare me away , lol

you have to copy and paste these links or they do not work properly.

ok, anyone have any linjs to fair priced or more info on these?

rb concepts X12
siro .12 trp

does anyone know the differences between thr muegen mr 12 and the mt 12 ??

my tc3 i run a novarossi mt12 and it hauls some serious ass, i just bought my g/f one and i put a os 15cvx in it and it rips. It depends on if your going to bash or race , or have it track legal. hope this helps:juggle:

I have the Mugen MT .12 and its VERY similar (if not the same) as the NovaRossi MT .12 and it does kick some serious ass!

i think i am looking now at the rb concepts x12 or v 12

i hear nothing bad about it and suppossedly it can spank about any other 12 out there .

strange - i just installed a RODY modified V12 in my reflex - and it is without a doubt the best engine i have ever used. i would strongly recommend the RB concepts mill.

strange ... how much experience do you have with nitro ? those engines are all great, just a little sneaky on tuning. but if you figure it out. then youll be blazing fast

actually, supernitro - my RB engine was far easier to tune than all of my OS engines have been. I was quite suprised.

yeah i been tunning picco's for almost a year now. finiky but never had a real huge problem.

i ended up getting an sts for free and my god, i had no clue and off brand engine would be so blazing fast. i have no idea what they sell for but believe me when i say this thing screams...

yeah , STS is a decent little company , i can't remember the price either. i dont think it was too expensive at all.

What about a Trx 2.5?? Its a very powerful motor and not too finicky or elses traxxas would not put them in the hands of newbie RTR owners for T-Maxx, 4-tec, & rustler......at least I have had very good luck with the 3 I have.

I can get one at my LHS for about $110.

I am considering what motor to put in my NTC3 kit that I just bought, and the TRX 2.5 is on the top of my list....

I read either here or somewhere else that a guy was doing this install. I gotta believe it will work out good.

Dyno Tested 1.33hp for $110 sounds good to me. I am not above throwing in an exotic mill for big coin but if I go that route I had better see a BIG performance advantage in the parking lot.

i would NOT recommend that engine for the NTC3. That engine is very prone to overheating, and inside a touring car it would just cook. stick with the engines we have recommended. The Sirio .12TRP, RB Concepts V12, Novamega X12, Collari XS12, or Mugen MT12 and MR12. All these are top notch.

Thanks-
but-
Not to sound dumb but how does traxxas overcome this (overheating) in the 4-tec?? The 2.5 engine is the same in a 4 tec and it even has all the EZ start crap around it further inhibiting cooling.....and its readily available as a RTR?? Would they sell a kit that will overheat.

I will research "overheating" in a 4-tec forum....

I have heard of overheating issues with the 2.5 even in a T-Maxx but they almost always come down to tuning issues.....

Thanks again

bigmaxx, this is just coming from experience. And, yes, the 4tec also overheats. I have been racing in the Florida state series championship all year, and out of more than 2000 other touring cars i have seen, i have seen exactly 2 that had the 2.5 in them. Neither one was racing, since the engine is too big, but during practice he would bring them out to mess with on the track and just got his ass handed to him. I dont understand why you are agains purchasing one of the engines i mentioned earlier. if its cost, then go with the OS Max .12TR instead. same price as the 2.5 only more reliable, more powerful, and longer lasting. also, if you ever plan on racing - they will never let you run the 2.5, as it isnt roar legal.

THanks - I appreciate the honest info......and I am certainly not against the other motors I just happen to have a 2.5 that I run in other stuff so I have accessories and experience with it....

But getting "my ass handed to me" is certainly not in the plan...even though I will never race an official race on a sanctioned track. I do intend to be a menace at the local parking lot... So if a sirio or a nova mega or one of the others will do it, then thats fine.

Thanks for the info....track experience certainly helps me make my decisions....unfortunately the guys at my LHS tend to be a little swayed by thier parts distributers and push what they sell (duh!) and although it makes business sense for them I am more concerned with what makes my stuff go fast and look good going fast....

As far as the money .... thats not it. Thats why I dove into this hobby as opposed to 1:1 cars. I can afford to do it the way I want it.....and I want it nutso-crazy fast and to look cool as well.

Heck I built a twin supercharged maxx just because I wanted too....you never know where this touring car thing will go. he he he he

Thanks for the info and list of engines. I probally wont make a decision until later since its WINTER here in Michigan and my car wont see the road til spring. But the info is definitely appreciated.

Thanks

Some people have to learn the hard way. I can't wait for my 2.5 to blow in my max. Its cool when you first get it but give it a couple of tanks. some of my friends have them and theres seem cool ,but a couple of them have probs. I would not ruin a good car with that motor. But that is oppion no offence to anyone
