I have a new Ofna .26 Force engine.:D I started to break it in today with 20% fuel and with all the needles (HSN, LSN, ISN) just the way they were out of the box. I started with the one tank of fuel @ idle. Almost half way through the first tank at idle the engine stopped:whhooo:. When I tried to start it again the pull start came all the way out:angry:. The temperature was at 275 when it stopped I thought it wasn't too high since it's a new engine.
But I noticed that the pull start rope was a little hard and crisp. Like it was overheated or burnt.
And one of my ball bearings (the one in front where the bolt goes to hold the clutch bell) was destroyed.
Does anybody know a substitute for the pull start? like a crank start to replace the pull start system? If yes please reply with the part number and where I can get one.

Thanks :)

i would contact the manufacturer and see what the say first.
if this is new they may want you to send them the engine.
my stepson had a force 32 that broke the connecting rod and they fixed it fo 50 bucks and he had the buggy for over a year

I would do that too^^

But I would never idle a new engine. That's not the way to break them in anymore.

Thanks!
I just realize that there is a thread on the new break in procedure, I'm going to try it. I checked the engine and everything looked fine except for the pull start rope that got burn:whhooo:. I got another pull start rope and rebuilt the pull start. If it happens again I'll contact the manufacturer !

Thanks again!

275F is pushing what most people consider the safe limits of engine temp. Using stock settings doesn't mean that you can break in the engine with those settings without making some adjustments.

Heres a good video series to watch on engine break in. It goes over a lot of the basics of yoru nitro engine and it also explains and demonstrates 3 different methods of breakin. The Traxxas method, The heat Cycle method, and Squirrels method. I've been using Squirrels method for a good while now and so far its a great way to break in an engine. I've had good results with it and its easier than some of the other methods out there. Its pretty similar to the heat cycle method but with a twist. Just throwing it out there.

I use a combination of heat cycle and traxxas. My twist is to not let the engine cool too much in between tanks, unless it's night night time.

Thats along the same lines as squirrels method. Works great and its not a pain in the a$$ to do.

I let mine cool down to around 100F then fire it back up. I only heat cycle for a 2-3 tanks like that, then I run it gently/tune accordingly for the first gallon. Usually the first 10 tanks or so are the worst.

IMO the heat cycle method seems like forcing the engine to break in. I don't like letting mine run cool any more than necessary.

Well I ended up breaking it in after SEVERAL attempt. I had to replace the crank start twice because the engine got too hot. but not it runs like a champ I even run it more then my other cars now. I tuning was painful but I was patient and it paid off. Next time it will research my engines more before I buy the cheapest one.
