Hey all, First post Newb here.

My son just received his FS Racing Team 4x4 truck 9E-Bay) today and in a matter of a few minutes after a breaking routine he killed all of the teeth on the spur gear. With close inspection of the truck I see that the engine base plate has a slight bend in it forcing the engine into a slight downward angle. Should it be level in the truck and meet the spur gear square? I know nothing about this brand and am having trouble finding spare parts for this truck. Does anyone knw anything about them?

clutch bell and spur gear should be aligned, the car you say it's probably one of this chinese cars that are reaching the market nowadays, post a picture to know wich model it is, and maybe someone can help you to find parts, some of this cars are sold under different brand names.

Welcome to RCNT!

Yes, the clutch bell and the spur gear should meet as squarely as possible. This keeps the gear mesh even and could help prevent the spur from getting eaten.

Another thing that could have caused the teeth to get eaten, is the mesh. If the spur and clutch bell were too loosely meshed, then the clutch bell would have not properly engaged the spur and simply torn the teeth down like a grinder.

So, you may have a couple of issues on this one. As for finding out information about the RC, I have not heard of your particular 4X4, but if you can post a picture along with its actual name from the owner manual including the company name, I am certain we can dig up some information that might prove useful to you.

Again, welcome to RCNT!

It's definitely a Chinese one. There is a sticker over the manufacturer name on the box that I managed to get off. The company name is Zhejiang Feishen Vehicle CO., LTD.... marketed as FS Racing Team here

Here is a link to an Ebay Auction of same truck there are a bunch of pics there.

There is a definite problem with the engine alignment as the angle that the engine sits is off. The spur gear is actually rubbing against the clutch bell. I loosened the screws on the engine mount and got the horizontal alignment somewhat better but the vertical is still way off. I will have to remove the engine and the mounting plate and then straighten the plate so that it sits flush with the chassis plate. But I still need a new spur gear....already....

So I took the car apart and flattened the engine mounting bracket and cleaned up the teeth on the spur gear. I put it back together and all is good again after meshing the gears together. I had to go a little closer then they call for because of the worn teeth. This should hold for now until I get a replacement Spur gear.

Now I just have to get the engine to run properly.... it keeps taking off at idle. I am sure I'll get it sooner or later......

Here is a pic of what he has.

Not a bad looking ride.

Once you get the alignment and mesh issue resolved, you should find it much easier to solve the other problems.

As for the thing taking off at idle, sounds like you need to adjust the idle down a notch or two...or get tighter springs on the clutch shoes. The easier solution at this point is going to be to adjust the idle.

Here is a link that might help with the tuning of the engine.

Read through it and make certain to go to the second page...there's more info there.

I like the look of that truck.

Make sure you cut some airflow holes in the front window to help cool the motor!

Thanks for the link. It was a good read. I'll try to get it set up right tomorrow....for tomorrow...

New problem...

So I figured out the tuning....somewhat. The car is running good. We took it over to a sand pit (frequented by Motocross riders) and gave it a good workout this morning.

The problem is that it now one of the drive shafts keeps coming disconnected at the universal joint. It is the front left wheel and when that happens it takes a good 20 minutes to take everything apart and put it back together. Any ideas what can be done to help deter this? maybe a little crazy glue on the pins for the universal???

Figured out the problem of the disconnecting U joint then completely stripped out the Spur Gear......Off to the hobby shop...once again.......

Oh man, Do I hear ya on that one!! :\

Mind you I am thinking of picking up one myself so I can race around with my son....I can't keep my hand off the remote...

When yoiu get one...make certain to deconflict the remotes by channel or by band. That way you do not end up controlling his ride or he yours while you race around.

Also, make certain to either pick up the same ride for parts commonality...or look into your LHS for what rides they have parts support for and go that way. Either way, you want to make certain you have parts support local in case you just can't wait for the mail. :D
