Hey guys I'm selling a few things on ebay, and I have a question from a potential buyer.

I put that I would only ship to the US and Canada, but this guy from Australia sent me a message asking if I would ship there. Have any of you ever shipped over seas or down under? I don't want to get hit with a negative and have to give the dude back his cash after I send him the item.

Any ideas?

It's a pain in the ass! Almost every auction I have run in the last two years I specify US ONLY and I still get someone asking to ship to Australia. I bleive Paypal also charges on the exchange as well as the typical fees.

I have shipped down under a few times, shipping is HIGH LIKE A DUCK and takes a long time to get there. I don't remember paypal charging anything extra on the exchange but it cost $74.00 ( USPS) to sent a stadium truck there and it took 19 days before the buyer got it. The same box would have cost around $14 to send priority inside the US. I usually ship anywhere, just make yourself very clear that shipping will be slow and very expensive.

tell him there's fee's associated w/ it and add an extra 10 bucks for the PITA tax.....I don't like charging people to ship either but if it's a bitch to do it then hell yeah charge his ass for your time.....

I told him I wouldn't ship. Its more of a pita then anything else. I'm sure it will sell one way or another.

is it just a high price tag or the buyer's being too ansy when they don't get it in 4 days?
what IS the PITA part for you guys that ship overseas?

In my auctions I ALWAYS put "International postage costs on request" and I have shipped from the UK to the US, Denmark, Israel, Japan and Italy to name just a few (one of the US ones was for $900 and costs of $125), I have to say that, I couldn't give a sh#t where they live. The only problem is that the Paypal exchange rates are very very slim.

I get a quote for a SIGNED FOR DELIVERY, tell them the price and that they pay for the costs on top of their bid if they win. I've never had a problem.

Lets be honest, you're gonna go to a post office etc anyway no matter who wins or where they live so one more form to fill out makes no difference to me.

this is what I remember when I shipped snowboards...I never saw any more of a PITA to deal w/ other than extra shipping fees.....

I ship to Australia quite a few times. Its expensive as hell. The only way I would do it it is if they pick up all the fees.I also would ship overnight via FedEX. Let them get hit with all the Duties and taxes. I personally like FEDEX intl because they offer a proforma invoice to use to help with customs.

Fed ex is not possible for me. The nearest office is 60+miles away.

UPS I could do.

Your first sentence hit the nail on the head. I always tell the buyer it will take up to 3 weeks for delivery and I'm not responsible is the package gets held up in customs. Less than a week later I start getting emails wanting to know why they didn't get it yet. Other than that it's no problem IMO, as long as there willing to pay the extras cost I'll send it anywhere.

The biggest prob for me with overseas deals is EVERYTIME I have done a overseas transaction they either just didnt pay, or else they sent me bunk payments. I will strictly only ship to the Us and canada. From my experiances so far, every person overseas is scamming. (I know there not ALL like this, but thats all I've gotten so far).

I've shipped many places, UK, Finland, Japan... and never had a single problem. I just tell the buyer up to three weeks (not guarenteed) and its gonna cost a lot.

We ship supplies for the airplanes all the time internationally when they are on extended trips. It's our own poop, going to our own airplane and the frickin customs decs are still a pain in the ass. And God forbid you should have to send parts! We once had to have a courier hand deliver an ignitor box to one of our planes in Luxembourg cause getting it there any other way was just stupid cause of delays (international overnight is not technically overnight) and the chance it could get held up in customs and not make it to the airplane.

I've shipped all over the world, and never had any major issues. Customs labels suck, especially if the product is over 4 pounds in weight. Had items get to the UK in 4 days, and take 6 weeks to Australia. Post office was my best bet every time. Never paid attention to Paypal, but it makes sense. I'll pay better attention next time. Make sure the customer knows how much and how long!!! Whatever the quote is on USPS.com add to it cause it's never accurate. Best of luck.
