HELLLLLLLP !!! Please, before i go totally nuts !

I purchased a set of rims (wheels to the un educated, nothing funny meant tho..) a while back for the TT Buggy before it was stolen, luckily i took them off before that fateful run on that fateful day.

The wheels themselves are multi spoke rims that were chrome. Over time and with use, the chrome has peeled in places and now they look horribly tatty. I've tried various methods of "Removing" the chrome, all without much success. I have however managed to do one of the four with complete success, but i dont fancy wasting a half litre of nitro fuel on each wheel to strip away the chrome.

Does anyone hyave any ideas on what would remove the chrome without damaging the plastic rims ??

find that mythical woman who can suck it from a trailer hitch through 50 ft of garden hose..... :D.....then give me her number when your done

finger nail polish remover staines it pretty bad.. maby if you let it soak it will remove it.. (was trying to soften up the super glue)

just take some fine grit and rough um up.. then primer and paint them.. you not gonna get them dyeable i dont think..

no need to primer plastic, but yeah, sanding them is going to be your best bet.

I used acrylic laquer thinner on my RPM rims and it didn't effect the plastic. They still shine like new.

You can pick some up at a paint shop, or autoshop (if they mix paint)

Nice aray of ideas, but i want them UNMARKED,I.E, i will not be painting them once i have stripped them of the chrome. I got two done already and the third is well under way. might try that thinners trickon the last one tho... sounds kinda fun !! will let you know how it goes.

Easy off oven cleaner will easily strip chrome plate off without damaging the wheels. I have done it myself a few times. Just spray them down, come back in about 10- 15 min and the chrome will be gone. It's that easy.

Hmm Simple Green Automotive (regular kind doesn't do it) always seemed to take the chrome off of my t-maxx rims if I left it on there for awhile.

Hey, NC NITRO, where were you at 3am (UKtime) when i was rubbing away with a small paint brush removing remnants of chrome from the spokes of these wheels eh ?? LOL :joke: I've done three of em now, the fourth is almost done. Funny thingis, the wheels were sold as BBS Mesh wheels, NOW, i spya set of white ones fitted to a "OFNA Violator" in "RC Car Action Mag" how typical !!!!

I did find one thing through letting the wheels soak in the nitro fuel though, it softens CA and allows easier removal of tyres without having to take a blade to them to get em off !!!
