I read all the time about people wanting stronger parts, as did i want them too, but after making my own shock tower brace i came to realize, even after reading people explain why parts break, that getting stronger parts will only BREAK other parts. Instead of breaking my tower , while landing upsidedown and skidding 20ft, i popped both shocks off(not broke just popped open) i broke both ears on the gearbox that the lower tower screws go into and broke the lip that holds the tower down in place. So in essence i only BROKE 1 part, but instead of unscrewing 4 screws to replace tower, i now have to take out and dissassemble my gearbox to replace both housing halves. Same cost MORE EFFORT!!!

SO its not so much that i like breaking parts , its that , those weak parts that ALWAYS break are MUCH MUCH easier and quicker to replace.

SIGH :preachin:

Too bad it took that for you to learn...

I too sometimes feel very preachy about the subject. On my rigs, if it sticks out of the center of the chassis and could possibly make contact with inanimate objects, it should be plastic.

well , I have some aluminum parts on my LST2 and I just made sure everything was aluminum from the hubs all the way to the chassis that way it can't transfer breakage to anything.

I had a bad crash and broke the chassis braces and the bellcranks and just replaced everything with aluminum , but I might have been foolishly-stupidish in doing this cause now the truck weighs a ton & a half.

I think you may be right about sticking with plastic but I wish I would have known this before I spent 300 bucks on upgrades!

Aluminum can be very beneficial in certain areas, but in many cases it just adds a bunch of weight and tranfers any damage to the next weakest link. Aluminum will also bend and it will never be right again once it has.

I'm not going to take the aluminum out but if it ever bends or breaks something else I'll just replace with stock plastic.

Hopups that are properly used are a good thing. There are parts on most RCs that are made less then they should be to help with keeping kit or RTR prices affordable.

When choosing hopups look to strengthen parts that are time consuming to replace and frequently brake. You will want to transfer shock or impact to another place that is easier or cheaper to replace.

Hopping up for bling is a waist of cash unless your building a shelf queen.

One other little thing is when you run aluminum it(the part) might not break but the screws will and man are they a pain to get out.

Thankfully I have learned through reading here about the problems with replacing everything with aluminum. Also the guy at my LHS is a strong advocate against aluminum as well. In fact isn't HotBodies going to reissue the LSP Pro without the aluminum arms? I watched an LSP just two weeks ago at our first race t-bone an MGT and broke the front B block as well as his nice aluminum arm. Like Ed and others said... if you use aluminum in the right areas like your bulkheads and diff cases just to name a couple you are ok, but unless you are going for looks and looks alone.... leave the plastic. Take care guys.

Well I got to say I run an LSP and as much as I am usually against aluminum arms I love them on the LSP, I watch a lot of truggies with the plastic arms and because they are so long they get that rubber effect flopping and wobbling all the way down the straight stretch.
But as far as any other reasons on this topic I say stay away. Plastic is cheap to replace, I had my 2.5 Ruslter built from front to back and top to bottom in aluminum EXCEPT the F&R bulkheads---$3.00 parts and all the stress in a bad crash will transfer to it, and VERY fast to replace.
