Here I am ready to watch a DVD on my computer before I hit the rack and low and behold it has a one of those non-ff or skipping preview menus. You can't even skip to the menu either. Going on 15 minutes of BS at the start just waiting for the stupid stuff to be over. I swear whoever thought of not being able to skip the previews and go straight into the menu should die a horrible slow death, say lasting 20 or 30 years.

Ok and while I am bitching here, does anyone know how to stop media player from defaulting with subtitles? That's almost as annoying but not quite.

I think you still have the option of fast forwarding through the previews...and yes, that does piss me off...lol

You can change the subtitles through the menu or some players have a default setting for the subtitles...I know my ps2 does.

But you know what pisses me off? Is when a cop does 70mph for 5 miles then has the nerve to pull me over for going the same speed!

The good thing about DVDs (other than quality) is they USED to not have previews, now they have them too!!!!! This makes me sooooo made that I agree, mabye even 40 years worth of hell!!!!

But seriouly, previews/adds before a movie really sucks. I don't have my "Youth Operators Lisence", yet, but getting pulled over for going the same speed the cop would go would majorly piss me off.

That's very funny.

I have 2 DVD players, not counting the one in the computer, and I've found that certain DVD discs are programmed NOT allow you to fast forward or skip the intros. (It's the same in all 3 players) You can't even access the menu till it's over. I'm in favor of a 2 year slow death, otherwise that idiot will come up with something even more annoying 3 years from now.
Still something to be said for tape. Never any way to stop you from fast forwarding.

Yeah, nothing like Hi-FI!!!! As much as I hate the previews, I would never opt for a tape if given the choice. The sound is just to important to me.

I know on my dvd player on almost all dvd's, I use the chapter skip button and it normally takes me there quicker.

Me two, and 99% of them are pornos.

It also ticks me off when veteran users aren't descriptive with their thread titles

SSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, that was just :spam

VHS - Video h something... Not good TV watching apparatus.

This is techy...

If you have a DVD burner you can re-author DVDs with a couple simple utilities (freely distributable, by the way.)

DVD Decrypter:

http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

Simply decrypts the DVD into its video object files where they can be seen in an explorer window.

DVD Shrink

http://www.filepop.com/cat/m_253.htm

This utility allows you to reauthor DVDs choosing only the content you want. Commercial DVDs are dual-layered (9.4gb). Popular DVD burners are currently 4.7gb. Dual-layered burners have just recently come upon the market.

DVD Shrink let's you ditch the foreign soundtracks, (usually about 350mb each), ditch the 5.1 stereo if you want the regular stereo, ditch the intros, special features, etc... keeping just the movie. If it's still over 4.7gb an appropriate compression ratio will be applied to bring the volume within the limits of your burner.

If you want to watch movies on your laptop on an airplane and you have a DVD-Rom but not a burner... you only need DVD decrypter. Decrypt as many movies as you'd like to your hard drive. PowerDVD (and others) will open decrypted files and play them without the source disk.

has anyone ever tryed hitting the goto button and then pressing 0001 this should start the movie straight away

This one was not a porn flick it was POTC. Sorry about the "non-descriptive" title but if you really want to get technical it was what was covered in the posts here.

In New Hampshire the law is that every new driver under the age of 18 can only get a Youth Operators License. This means that the driver can only have one other person in the car excluding family members for 180 days after the lisence was issued. Also if you get ANY moving violation your lisence is gone for 20 days. The second violation you lose it for 40 days and it goes up and up. This is another thing that really pisses me off, thats why I specifically said my "Youth Operators Lisence" in my post.
