I’ve had same thing happen and actually short out amd melt plug a lot worse. I’d cut naked wires and and cover ends with heat shrink or something. I’m not big on balancing batteries other than race battery
 
JFC, how did that not short out and release the magic white smoke?
Anyway, I'd measure the cells and if they're fine, replace the balance connector. But I'm cheap and relatively good at soldering so YMMV. :D

Aside from the one red wire on the end that’s the negative lead, do the positive leads need to be in a specific order?

I think I can figure out the order they were in by the length of the damaged wires

On the balance plug it has 4 black wires and one red wire. The four black ones are connected to each individual cell positive side, correct? The one red one is connected to the negative side, correct?

The red wire is connected to the positive terminal of the 1st cell. Each successive black wire after that is hooked up to the positive side of each of the remaining cells, while the last black wire is connected to the negative terminal of the last cell. See pic below. It definitely matters, to me at least, the order in which the wires are connected in. If I were repairing that connector, I would first remove the hard shell so you can get access to see where the wires are hooked up so you know what order to put them in.

Ok, I was looking at it backwards. I was figuring the one odd color wire was at the end. Thanks for clarifying it though!

I’ll split it apart and do it that way.
 
As long as the (in your case) red wire is in the same spot on the balance plug as before, the (in your case) black wires can safely be in any order after that in the next four locations of the new plug. The charger does not care. YOU may care, but the charger does not, and will still balance as it did prior to the incident.

The only incorrect/dangerous advice I see in the entire thread is “cut naked wires and and cover ends with heat shrink or something. I’m not big on balancing batteries other than race battery”… Absolutely do not follow that advice. Clearly someone doesn’t understand how Lipo’s, and Lipo chargers operate.

If you are gonna lose sleep over it, or just want the cell numbers as recognized by the charger to be exactly as it was prior to the incident; do as @Greywolf74 says, and by all means-pop it open, verify, and terminate your leads as they were from the manufacturer.
 
I would not connect the wires to the balance connector just willy-nilly.

I took a spare balance lead for the charger and just removed a couple leads from the shell, when I get the proper shells tomorrow I’ll swap it out.

after looking at the wiring, I was thinking why don’t I get the meter out 🤦‍♂️ if you put your negative lead in the negative on the big connector then go to each individual balance wire with the other lead. One shows 0 volts, that is the first black wire in the shell. Then find the next wire that will read 3.xx volts, that’s the second wire in the shell. Then find one that reads 7.xx volts, it’s the third. Then one shows 11.xx volts, fourth, then the last red one shows 15.xx. In the case of this 4s battery.

So take aways from this, it absolutely does matter the order I believe because the charger is seeing 3,7,11,15 etc volts on the individual balance leads, but it’s only displaying the difference between each lead (hopefully makes sense 😂) and I suspect it needs to see it in order?
