does a turbo charger make a difference

but a desiel engine has injectors like a regular gas engine ... so depending on where the exhaust port is you can still force more air / fuel mixture in there to get the boost .... where the nitro engines are fed fuel through the bottom of cycle ...
 
Nope. Just have similar ignitions. Try running RC fuel in a diesel.. hehehe yeah, lets do it. Anyone have a diesel car we can test it on?
 
My friend took the motor and fan off of an old keyboard vacum an stuck it on is carb. It made quite a bit more power but it didn't work when he was idling, probably cause it just blew all fuel out the exhaust. But at WOT this thing flew. His solution to this problem was to set up a rod that went from his throttle servo to the switch to turn on the "turbo" so whenever he gave it gas it would turn on and when he let off it would turn off. The result was awsome!!

Now this isn't really a turbo cause it doesn't run of the exhaust and it isn't a supercharger but it definetely added more boost for more power.

If I still had my Peugot 505 Turbo Diesel, I would try it. They made/make this stuff for diesel trucks in the winter to thin the fuel and essentially boost its power. For my 10 gallon tank, I should have only added an ounce...but ya know how it is when there is like 2 or 3 ounces in the bottom of the can right? Yeah, so did that once and blew a hole in my radiotor, I was going so fast and for so long. Yeah, so nitro fuel would sound like a plan, I bet it would burn no problem.

As for the 2 being the same, not even close. Diesel is heavier and oilier than nitro.
 
Diesel engines are called that because of a (I believe German) fellow that designed them by the name of (something) Deisel. The Detroit Deisels were the beggining of superchargers now known as roots type blowers, and once came with not only a supercharger, but a turbo both on the same engine. I think they were 2-stroke, but can't explain why the would have worked, and our model engines don't. All this info I got from watchint Trucks on Spike TV incase you were wondering.

That reminded me of a picture i had of a RB26DETT only with a added supercharger. Look at the way they ran both the turbos and the supercharger threw the intercooler. Someone better have some sweet pistons in that thing. TWo huge turbos witht hat s/c will cut the spool time down to nothing. So basically its gonna be a accel of a S/C and top end/crazy HP of a supercharger. BEFFY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe those diesals have valves just like a four stroke but open at the top of every stroke instead of everyother stroke, so the piston can capture the extra pressure and fuel that is injected.

Actually, the engines we use are not diesels. You don't need a glow igniter or an ignition system with diesel engines. Diesels fire on compression. That's one of the reasons why if you have a diesel engine in an r/c plane, they tell you not to turn over the engine by hand unless you plan on starting it, because it can spontaneously start.

Our engines still need to glow igniter and glow plug to start up. Personally, i'd say our engines are more similiar to gas engines than diesels.
 
Ummm, I had a diesel car and yes, it had a glow start and was a real bitch in the winter.
 
Diesel do have glow pluggs though and they do run off compression. Theres two thing in common with nitro....we run something other than diesel and theres somethign non diesel, its not really either or nor. It's just anitro engine so lets leave it be.

are there any 1/10 1/8 rc cartruck engines that are 4strokes?? i know they are around for airplanes..
 
One of the reasons real diesel engines don't need a glow plug (although they techically do have them) is that they have a timing system and are under much higher compression than RC. Technically, Dieseling is combustion due to compression. If you've ever had a really old crappy car and shut it off and it kept running (Vacation quote..."All new cars do that") it's was dieseling. One of the main difference in RC is that full sized have a timing/ignition system.

Super and Turboing our 2-stroke engines won't make a big difference because of two reasons.

1. Our engines are technically turbo charged already because of the tuned pipe. Turbo/super basically means that there's a positive amount of pressure in the engine.like 1.5 times the amount of air in the chamber. Our 2-stroke/tuned pipe combos do the same thing.

2. Our engines run on a fixed Fuel to Air ratio (AF) there is an ideal ratio. When you put more air in the formula and you don't add fuel you go lean and loss massive power. If you add fuel to make the AF ratio correct at full RPM it will run rich on the low-end and cause problems.

With our new dyno we can actually test to see if there is a gain!

I think a top end blower that kicks in auto around top speed would work for more top end, but with the strain these engines are under now it would just wear the hell out of the engine.

Superchargers and turbo do work they raise compression ratios of engines by forcing more air into the combustion chamber its does not rely on timing settings but relies on RPM. The higher RPM the more air is forced into the combustion chamber. It doesn't matter if its a 2 or a 4 stroke engine. It works the same.

It does matter if it a 2 storke w/o valves b/c that extra boost dosen't do much when it just goes out the exhaust port since the intake and exhaust are both open at the same time. :fro:

EDIT : I also think that turbos do rely on timing settings since i believe that for every ___ ponds of boost u have to advance you timing a certain amount, but i may be way wring on tha tsomeone tell me if I am.
