I'm bored. and am waiting on parts for all of my projects so I'm really thinking about breaking the smt10 gravedigger.
how you might ask?
well by putting the castle motor in it of course!
it was wild in the heavier cen, so it should chuck off a few driveshafts rather quickly!
i still plan on swapping to a dual motor setup, but i just dont have the money for either motor for a bit so the trucks just stiiting on a shelf, which hurts my feelings.
so before i do that I'm gnna have some fun with it. its still all stock drivetrain, so I'm accepting that I'm probably going to either eat the spur gear up OR A DRIVESHAFT. oops

I'll get a shovel. 👍🤣

My daughter's Digger is all stock except for a Mamba X/1410 combo. The 1410 has a lot more power than a 1406 and her driveshafts and spur gear have held up fine. If you drive the truck hard the suspension links are what's going to fail, she's been through a lot of them.
awesome! this gives me much confidence! i swapped it all over but its so dark out tonight i can't make a video or see the truck myself even really lol,
i ripped it around the yard for a minute, temps never got up to outside temps really lol, it is light enough that its not making the motor work like it had to in the cen.

took me about 2 mins to break the digger this morning, pretty sure i just stripped the spur gear tho, no biggie, well it wouldnt be if i had a replacement that is lol. now its another one for the shelf of destruction. sadly the repair shelf is getting REALLY full and the work wall is getting slim lol
was fun for that 2 mins tho, definately moving to the front of the repair line as it wont take much to fix and it was pretty fun to rip

in this short i killed killed it lol

I ate up the spur gear
I was pretty sure I recognized that sound lol
Opened the housing and there was a pile of shavings on the motor plate lol
Guess I need a steel spur gear for it

Was it just an incorrect gear mesh? I have done it. I can’t tell what pitch it is but I can tell you, I have ruined plenty of 48 and 32p spurs. A steely isn’t a bad idea
You and my son both broke something today, congratulations. 💚 😁
I don’t know how we are going to get this done, but someday we all gotta meet up.

You don't "need" a metal spur. Your gear mesh was way too loose there. Even a metal spur would have been toast there, but it likely would have taken the pinion with it 😉

Gotta be sure to ask for a steely gear. A steely dan is a VERY different thing! 🤣

i used the paper method to set the mesh, its set the same way with every other one I've done, it was tight with a little wiggle, i think it could possibly have been the age of the gear it was around 25 years old, but the mesh was good

i am prety sure my mesh was good, after i ruined my first two attempts i have been pretty careful with meshing, i always roll a paper in between and tighten it down, then roll the paper out? there was just the slightest bit of wiggle, none of my spurs have done that since i learned my mistakes with it, but it isnt beyond the realm of possibility
