i have a gs storm(completely stock) and a t-maxx(nothing is stock but the inside of the diffs). AkA i have no experience with diffs. I know how they work. What i dont know are the difrences between a spider diff and a torsen diff???

(I do kno torsen are expensive for the storm)

one quick 'torsen diff' search in this forum turned up 2 pages of threads

torsen search

a spider is the gearing in side the diffcase that actually allows differential speeds of transaxles. ie. turning a corner yeilds a slower inside tire speed with a faster outside tire speed. be default the diff is open. this is the same in your 1:1 car.

torsen is a patened name for a Torque Sensing diff. essentially a Posi trac, LSD, etc for your 1:1. working in a different manner, the diff is able to auto sense when traction is lost and auto deliveres power to the other wheel.

lots more can be found with a google search for differentials or visiting just about any offroad/wheeling forum.
