Newbie to 1/8 scale - and this is no doubt a stupid question - but do i need to lubricate these or not? If I do then what lube should i be lookign at using - an oil or a grease?

You don't want any grease exposed to the outside world. I put diff fluid inside my diffs where the 6 smaller gears are, and a dab of grease on the ring/pinion gears. That's pretty much it.

Like Heartbreak said... I do not use any grease or oil on my outdives. I have heard of folks using graphite to lube the outdrives. I use Dry Ice... it goes on wet but dries completely and leaves no wet or sticky residue. Works great.

Dry ice is good or any lubricant that does not attract dirt. I have the dry ice and some motorcycle o-ring chain lube/wax. Both work well.

Yeah, like these guys said, I use [ame=http://www.amazon.com/White-Lightning-oz-Chain-Lube/dp/B000C14HL0]white lightning[/ame]. Goes on wet, but dries pretty quickly. I use it on spur/cb, cvd cups and dogbones. Pretty much anywhere there is external friction on a vehicle. Seems to help them last longer.

Cheers chaps - all makes sense - I'll get myself some dry lube...
