Diff Lube

What is the best diff lube to use for general bashing? I want something that will last and not need to be changed every couple tanks. The guy at the LHS said 50K front and rear for all around running. Whats the general opinion here?

It would depend what you need / want from the truck and the way it handles dependant on the track you race on.

The higher the weight of the diff oil, the more "lock" or "limited slip" you will get from the diff.

On a tight track you want to allow the front diff to do its job whilst avoiding scrubbing on the inside tyre when in a turn through a very limited slip diff (heavy diff oil).

That said, a limited slip diff (heavy weight diff oil) would limit the loss of power to an airborne wheel and help keep power to the ground on the tyre that remains in contact with the ground.

The rear is also subject to a smilar consideration as the rear end set up can determine a portion of steering and handling characteristics.

For a revo basher, I'd almost say to go a bit heavier. Since it runs two spider gears, it has a lot of free space compared to most 1/8 scale diffs for the fluid to float around in. Although... now that I think about it, the teeth are probably smaller on the gears, so 50K may work well there too.

I run 50K in my aftershock and savage with pretty good results. Also 50K in my jato.

I put 50K in. I am in the process of putting it back together. I will let you know how it turns out.

Take apart the diff cup and with the spider gears in just squeeze it in there.

Probably doesn't matter much. With the smaller teeth on the gears and the smaller cup in general, 50K should work just about like it does in my savage and aftershock diffs.
